This is the first Monday I’ve had offin a while so, what better to do then build a target stand.
I’ve been needing a portable target stand so, I went to Home Depot with a short list.

Once I got home I laid out and marked mo boards for cutting

The 2x4 was cut into four two foot sections. The 1x2s were cut to two 65 inch pieces and two 20 inch pieces.

Holes were drilled in the base for the bolts.

I drilled pilot holes in the 1x2s so that they would not crack and I added corner braces for added support. Just need to add a 23x35 piece of cardboard and it will be ready rot the range.

I had a little help from my buddy, Turk. He doesn’t like having his picture taken. 91EA386B-BFA0-42EB-BA5C-BB281C3AD229.jpeg

That looks nice but it would take off like a runaway kite down here on the border. A "breezy" day will mostly stay under 30 mph.
I have to use a complete pallet for a base and even that tends to twist in the wind.
Holes can be drilled in the base to anchor it. When ever the wind is blowing 20 mph or more around here, it’s to wet to be out shooting.

I have seen some made of PVC piping similar in shape, but the maker included a way to fill the base pipes with water for stability in high wind or rough uneven terrain. With nothing glued, it broke down easily for transport to the gun range.

Nice looking stand!! But I go around the neighborhood after elections. Many of the signs are great for taping targets to. I usually get out early and go grab the best ones for target holders. (the ones with wire supports that just push in the ground). Yes I will be out there early Wednesday morning!! will grab about 30 of them.

I built mine very similar to yours, but because of the wind I use a 2"X2" wooden frame in a 2" steel base, in other words my base has 2"X 18" square tubing where I slide the target stand into the base. Naturally the base is welded together very similar to your wooden base being nailed or screwed, it weighs in right at 35-40 pounds just for the base. Note when the wind is blowing at 40 MPH it has a tendency to fall down, so I've drilled holes in the bottom of the base and I can insert steel tent pegs to keep it from falling down. That steel base I've had for at least 25+ years, and have only had to replace the wooden frame and the cardboard backing. Mine stands right at 6' by 2' and has plenty of room for a TQ15 target. It is very easy to transport, in fact when I was the range master for several casinos out here, I used to load 6 stands and targets in the back of a standard pick up truck, and haul them out to the range..

Nice stand!
Would you consider posting the guide in the resources area also? We have a "user builds" category for it.

That looks like mine, except different materials. Wish I had a better picture but.......
The wife had just shot the left upright.
Made from PVC and easily broken down. If the winds too bad, I load some lead ingots in the base.

I've built some out of 1" PVC like you described. I built mine wide enough for a piece of foam art board to fit inside the frame. I drilled some holes and ran picture hanging wire across the top and bottom and with binder clips I could attach and remove the foam board. I use the stick on targets I think called "shoot-n-c" and they stick and peel right off the foam board. If you get extra holes in the board they can be covered by white 3/4" labels. The foam board is $1 per each at Dollar General and really last a long time. Like the about poster said, I don't glue it together so it can be taken down real easy or replace a section that gets hit. Wind is not real kind so I keep a concrete block handy to put on the base.

Those little wire supports also make great plant supports for tomatoes, etc.........

Good work Gunny. I normally just staple my targets to a couple old Walnut trees on my dad's land. I have a death wish. Not really. We use 4x4 posts mounted into the earth and then plywood in between. Very non portable. I like your design and hope you haven't copy righted it. Very nice.

I pretty much knew what I wanted to build, but I watched a few videos on making target stands to get a few tips.
You can see that the screws that clamp the uprights are pretty long. That is so I can use thicker wood, like 2x4s to make the uprights if needed. I can also put a single post for hanging a steel target.
You are more then welcome to copy it if you wish.

I use 3" PVC pipe for the base and 1 1/2" wooden uprights. I staple my wife's empty beer cases to the uprights, then paste my shoot n' see targets on the back side of the case.
Throw the paper case away, save the uprights and the base comes apart, (not glued).

This election season (which ended yesterday obviously) did not produce as many campaign signs. I haven't used them as target stands yet and was hoping to try that idea this season. Slightly disappointed.

Not sure where your at but this years crop in IL has been insane. Thousands litter the roadways, often several of the same sign in the same spot. Its It's literally crazy.

If you guys are gonna grab campaign signs, be advised that some or most candidates reuse their signs in the next election. Some get pretty ouchie about someone taking their signs. I know for certain that it’s illegal to tamper with the signs unless they’re placed illegally.

If you’re gonna shoot up a sign, make sure it’s someone anti 2A
