Does anyone have a Tarhunt slug gun? Either the bolt action or the modified 870? I have wanted to get another Browning A-bolt to replace the one I had to sell several years ago. But now they are fetching a price more than I think is warranted. The Tarhunt is very interesting to me, but is very pricey itself. At least the bolt action is. The modified 870 seems to be a better option in te way of value. I just don't know anybody that has had any experience with one. Thanks for any input.

TarHunt owners seem a happy lot. Lightfield slugs developed their sabot loads in Tarhunts to maximize accuracy.

IIRC, their tweaked 870s were guaranteed to do 2 1/2" at 100 yards with Lightfields. Some testimony exists of better groups from individual weapons.

I'd like to play with one, but since I tend to hunt in the thick stuff, my 870s are more than accurate enough as is.....

Thanks for the info. My only concern with them is all of their models have a muzzle brake. I have one now on my slug gun, and I curse at the thing every year.LOL It doesn't do much for recoil, or muzzle climb, but sure does a number on my ears. I tried using plugs, and electronic muffs, but that is more than a hassle.

I suppose another option would be just going to a muzzle loader. I know they are starting to get good groups at extended ranges with them. And now we can use smokeless powder in them here. Hmmm, decisions decisions.

Jr,

I own a Tar-hunt RSG Mountaineer 20 ga, a Browning A-Bolt 12ga (actually the third one I have owned), and a Savage 210 12 ga.

I will be glad to answer any questions...

(I also own, and have extensive. experience with the Savage 10ml smokeless muzzleloader)

JEFF
