I was considering the tasco target/varmint scope, it has a mil reticule and is 6-24, anyone ever use this? It would probably go on a ruger 10/22, maybe an air gun.

Tasco Varmint Scope

I bought one and quickly returned it. If you zoom past about 16x it gets really cloudy and you can't focus on what you're shooting. Save yourself the trouble and save up a little more and buy something a bit better.

I also have one on my remington 700 varmint. I would not buy it again, I didn't pay much for it either. Very cloudy. Plus your eye must be the exact distance from the exit pupil, it is not forgiving

I looked at it and the 2.5-10 version; bought the 2.5-10. I think 24 is pushing the quality of their glass farther than it can go.

I already have a 3-9. I would like at least a little more magnification for silhouette shooting, I think at least 10 power would be better. 12 power had less field of vision than I am used to, though I could probably adapt to that.

I have 3 of them, and like all of them. I had one on a 308, parker hale ultralight, and it never lost zero, was clear, was repeatable( I could allways go back to South african ammo, when testing other ammo, and get right back on zero), and to me worth every penny. I had it on that rifle for 2 years, and once on, never adjusted the rings or mounts again. I sold the rifle but not the scope, put it on an old remmy 788 in 243, and because i am so used to the scope, am real darn good with it. Pulled off a balancing act trick shot, in the back of a dudes jeep, free standing, no support, and off hand; 1 foot on the outside wheel well, the other foot on a steel tube, used as a foot rest for the bench chair he put in the back. Whacked a big piggie right above his turning shoulder, at about 75 yds. All he did was the kickin chicken...
The other two I have on rimfires; I like them because you can clearly see individual holes on paper, at 100yds. I can clearly READ THE TARGET RANGE RULES LANGUAGE ON THE PAPER, at 100 yds.
yes , eye relief is about a 1 inch movement proposition, and the field of view is proly between 20 and 30 yds at 100, but for target shooting, what else do you want? For field shooting, I just crank it down to 6x, even though i allways zero it at 100 with 24x power, I just cranked it down to 6x. did not have to rezero, it was dead on, just needed to adjust the focus for 6x.

what kind of money are we talking? i like what ranger ruck said about being able to see where the rounds hit the paper at a 100 yrds. i want one for that alone. if their not to much $$

Well, i bought mine a few years back, when you could get them for 75 a piece, and then of course, word of mouth on them made it back to tasco, so they raised the prices( usually you see scope prices go down) If you can get one for 125 or less, i would do it again.

I put one on my .17 Hmr. I like it for the price. The 24 power is useless near dusk and is a little cloudy, still very clear around 16 or so. Im not sure if i would ever buy another one though........

that is another true statement; lowlight with these is not what you are looking for. I would do something with a 44mm lense or bigger, for low light, particularly if hunting with it. Preferably 50 mm or bigger.

I had that scope and mounted it on several of my rifles but they were all center fires ranging from 22 Hornet to .308 Winchester.

I too found it hard to aquire a good sight picture when the magnification was cranked up to max or near max, as the previous posts states it becomes very cloudy and the exit pupil becomes very small at 24X.
As far as reliable it was, with out any problems.

The Bushnell Trophy with mill dot in 3X9 is avalible for the same price as the Tasco 6X24 and has a lot clearer optics. You may want to try one of those.
