for preliminary details.

Received the replacement Tasco Super Sniper from SWFA yesterday. The broken one was sent 11/11/03, SWFA received it 11/14/03 as per UPS, replacement reeived 11/21/03.

The new scope, said to be of more current production, appeared identical to the broken except for the placement of the stamped (rolled) product number, country of manufacture, ID, etc. The broken scope had that info nearer to the occular bell, the replacement has it closer to the turret block. The turrets were much easier to turn and the tactile adjustments were very positive and well defined as compared to the broken scope's. Clicks are still very audible. Mounted it the night I got it.

Actually replaced the Burris Ruger rings for Leupold ones (medium height, the lowest Leupold offers for 30mm Ruger No.1, 77/22 rings). The Leupolds were slightly lower but I still have about 1/4" clearence between the Butler Creek barrel and objective bell.

Ran ~120 rounds of .17 HMR through the gun for zero and groups. Wanted to shoot more but I needed to zero new Tru Glo sights on my 11/87 and when that was done the range was close to closing time.

The scope has held up so far. Two thumbs up to SWFA.

Initial groups (50yds)

Top two were used for zeroing purposes.
Middle Left : CCI/TNT
Middle Right : Horn/V-max
Low Left : Fed/TNT
Low Right : Rem/V-max

Only had enough left over Rem ammo for 2 magfuls, 1 for zeroing, 1 for groups. Don't let the jagged lines of the 1" grid fool you. It wasn't the camera, it was the printer.

Final groups (50 yds)

Top and Middle : Horn/V-max
Bottom : Fed/TNT

All groups are 9 rounds (1 full mag capacity), even the ones that look like less than 9 rounds hit. Relatively warm ~65°F, occassional gust up to ~10 mph. By the time I got done with the 11/87 everybody was starting to pack up as it was getting close to closing so I didn't get a chance to shoot actual 100 yd groups.

One thing is for sure, I am a .17 HMR convert. Now to keep practicing to eliminate those flyers. Quite a few times I was getting touching-holes 3 shot groups, but 3 rounds (to me) don't make a group.

Glad to hear SWFA took care of you, and that you didn't have to send the broken scope in for repair.

The .17 looks like a winner.
