Hi,
I'm thinking of buying this Taurus 24/7 Pro in 9mm w/stainless slide. Price is sweet and looks are great, BUT will it mis-fire and/or stove pipe? Has anyone out there RECENTLY purchased this make and model? Any shooting, mis-fire or jamming issues? Would you recommend this weapon? I typically shoot just factory FMJ... thanks, JOE

Post should probably be in autoloaders forum.

I know lots of folks that love 'em. For less BS go to www.taurusarmed.net . There are people there who actually shoot them and own them and carry them. Here, you'll get the "taurus is crap" crowd from those that have never picked one up. Word of mouth isn't hands on experience. The 24/7 is a very popular handgun for self defense. I don't own one, more a revolver guy anyway and have my autoloader bases covered, but there are plenty on the taurusarmed.net site that have lots of experience with 'em and I hear few complaints and lots of praise for 'em.

Here's some reading, a tease anyway....

hello joseph5156,

i do not own one, but have fired own (a friend's) a good bit. i like them. neither my friend nor i have experienced any stoppages or malfunctions, and it seems to be a well built pistol. plenty accurate too.

McGunner is right. you will hear alot of bad things about Taurus products. I have heard that they made some pretty shoddy stuff back in the day and got a bad reputation. I think they make decent stuff today, but the old reputation stuck. I don't know that to be fact, i don't own any Taurus firearms and only fired 2 of their pistols.

I own a 24/7 Pro C in .40 and love it. I haven't had any problems with it and it shoots well.

I just got a 24/7 Pro 45 and am having some misfire issues. Sent it back to Taurus and they replaced the firing pin but after 100 rds of not missfiring it has happened about 6 times of of the next 200. I think it is probably hit or miss with Taurus.

hands-on

I recently fired a .45 Taurus 24/7, 0 malfunctions in 50 rounds out of a dirty rental.
OTOH, the trigger had a longer pull than most DA revolvers, and was the least comfortable feature.

I have had my 9mm for a couple of years. Not one problem to date. Comfortable shoots good no complaints. May not be quit as accurate as some of the high end guns but most guns are more accurate then me though. :)

Owned a 24/7 pro 9mm.

BUT will it mis-fire and/or stove pipe?
Never. The thing never malfunctioned as far as feeding, ejecting, and firing were concerned.

Any shooting, mis-fire or jamming issues?
Seeeeriously inaccurate. To the point of near disbelief. Shot waaay low and with huge groups. Ammo often entirely off the paper at 7 yards even compensating for low shooting, and that's using the big 12x17" VisiShots. (I'm not a bad shot, can ragged out the X ring with Ruger or Sig.) Return trip to Taurus didn't fix it. Sold it. Read similar reports from other 24/7pro9mm owners. Wouldn't buy another.

Fan forum. I think there's less BS here.

PS: The early 24/7pro45's had mag-related feed issues, which reportedly have been resolved. I've never read a bad report about the 24/7pro40. The PT92 just about has a cult following. You might consider one of these if you plan to go with Taurus.

my 24/7 pro (45acp) has never misfired, jamed, stovepiped or anything other than just plain work. i have probably 4-500 rounds through it. the only problem i ever had was when i dropped a clip in the dirt, damp sand actually. it was full of crud, so i just didnt use it. certainly no fault of anybody's but mine. i have run 100 rounds through at one time without cleaning with no problem. you could tell it was getting dirty, but no actuation problems. hope this helps. on second thought, maybe its more rounds than i thought. i don't really keep to much track, i just reload them.

I've had mine for almost a year, been fired maybe close to 1000 rounds. I've not had a problem with anything except wanting to fire it even more and costing me mucho dinero to buy ammo!! :)

I agree with Turbozag - very comfortable gun to hold and shoot. I've not fired too many guns, but I've tried several different brands at the range with friends, from HK, Beretta, Sig, S&W and none were as comfy with the grips.

I have a .40 caliber 24\7 (non pro) has several thousand rounds through it without a malfunction of any kind. Best of all, it hits whatever I aim it at.

I have both 9x19mP and .45ACP Taurus 24/7 PRO handguns...

Neither has been shot a lot, but both have been flawless in functioning to date.

Both are reasonably accurate too.

On top of this, they are extremely comfortable in the hand.

The only thing that I don't like is the Hienie Straight-8 sights, but that's a personal thing...

I'm very happy with the ones that I have.

This pretty much mirrors my experience with Pt-138 MilPro. I found the crown was cut completely wrong to the point where it even looked funny. Did you ever determine what was causing your inaccuracy?

I've been satisfied with my 9mm SA/DA 24/7 PRO. But I like the XD9 better and the S&W M&P better than either.

With S&W running a $50 rebate plus two free spare magazines offer thru April, its price is pretty close to the 24/7 PRO.

But IMHO the Taurus is generally a good gun for the money, just look it over carefully before you take it home. Everyone lets out a bad one from time to time. S&W customer service is second to none in my experience. I've never had to return any of my Taurus guns so far.

Have the 24/7 Pro 40. Love it. Accurate, light, and a real good shooter. Have shot several hundred rounds, no problems. Easy to clean....good luck.

I have handled a 24/7 and really liked it but never shot it. I have a pt140 pro and I find it one of the most comfterable guns I have. I have never had a malfunction of any kind. It's acurate to boot. Maybee I am just lucky but I wouldn't shy away from another. Academy has them NIB for $349.99, and they just started carrying the pt140/145 for $299.99.

24/7 in .40 is flawless

Never had a single issue with my 24/7 Pro in .40. Not one. Shoots very well, and pretty accurate--I can shoot tighter groups with my Kimber ProCarryII, but the Taurus definitely keeps all its holes in the -0 ring of an IDPA target. What's the phrase...it doesn't always have to be Minute of Angle, sometimes it just has to be Minute of Bad Guy? ;) For a home defense gun or occasional carry, I would absolutely trust my life with it.

I have the 24/7 Pro 45acp and I haven't had any real issues with it... the first batch through each mag I had one FTF... after that, I haven't had a problem with it. I chalk that up to it being new...

Never did, Taurus never said, they just shipped the gun back. There was no record of what, if anything, they had done to it, and I found no visible changes.

There were a lot of things to like about the 24/7 (including the best ergonomics of any pistol I've ever held), and if I had known where to start with the accuracy problem I would have had a gunsmith work on it, but I was getting discouraged and frustrated by that time, didn't want to start a gun-repair fishing expedition, decided to just sell it and move on.

well, i should have mine by 04/15 and i selected the stainless for $314 NIB plus $25 s&h. thanks for all of your comments!

Had a 24/7. The break-in period of 200 rounds saw some minor FTE's, it didn't like wolf ammo. After 200 rounds or so began to run fine.

My only real gripe with it was that the grip heel was too fat making it uncomfortable to grip for me. Other then that, very sweet shooting firearm.

The "had" part is because I sold it to a friend is getting into firearms as his first gun and also to raise some funds towards other purchases I wanted to make.

The second-strike capability of it is also nice. Too bad the only other spring-gun that has that capability is the P99.
