Forgive me if this has been covered...

My brother just emailed me about a problem he is having with his above mentioned pistol. The magazines don't drop free. Once emptied, he has to use two hands to get them out. I just asked him if he can see any evidence of binding points on them but was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem?

My Taurus experience is limited to my PT-140 Millennium in which all of the mags drop free real nicely.

I have a 24/7 pro in .45, and I have experienced quite the opposite.

My mags drop very quickly and I have to be ready to catch them or already have my hand on them before I hit the release. The mag release on mine is so sensitive that I needed to train myself to not let my grip any where near it.

Not much help for the issue at hand, just wanted to let you know that this issue is not common. I have seen a ton, keeping it conservative :), of posts where one issue on one specific firearm becomes a blemish for the entire line of 24/7 pro.

Mine has performed flawlessly with about 500 rounds. The Mag still slides out like butter and no FTE, FTF or F the what ever else is out there.

I lurk quite a bit and almost never post, passion dictates the when and where. I would try http://www.taurusarmed.net this forum is full of very experienced folks on the entire Taurus line. They even have a FAQ section that helps with the most common questions. There is also a smithing section where you can learn tweaks to ailments your firearm may develop.

A bit more info

Update:

I was just told that the pistol was shipped with two 15 rnd mags with it but that they were swapped out for two ten rounders before my brother could take possession of it do to our "state" being on the verge of becoming a communist one, thanks in no small part to the Dems we have ruinning.... I mean running the place. :fire:
They're still factory mags but work like crap. I have to wonder if the original 15s would have worked just fine???

I had a Pro in .45 and had feeding issues due to the mags. I called Taurus customer service and they shipped me two new magazines free of charge. I'd give them a call.

Hi Bob

Wow! I am glad not to be in your state. I have two 24/7 Pro's in .40 cal. They are flawless, never a problem, after thousands of rounds. Are the 10 round mags single stack? I would call Taurus and get two new ones. They would probably even ship them for free. So what happens if you get two 15 round mags from Taurus, do the NY state troopers bust down your door? I am happy that here in Nebraska we do dot have such a silly law. I would imagine Taurus would have some advice on the 10 round mags and again I am sure they would be happy to supply your brother with two more. I hope you brother gets it solved so he can enjoy his gun.

The Best to you and Yours!

Frank

UT: Thanks, I'll suggest this to my brother.

Frank: Ditto. Don't know if they're single stack, but I just emailed him to find out.
Other than the dealer sending the pistol, I don't have a clue who would know what mags were shipped with a pistol or even care for that matter. It's just plain ridiculous. But like I've said before, all those that feel they just have to vote Democrats into office... well, just keep up the good work and soon we'll all be in the same (sinking) gunboat. Don't believe me? Just look at the pickle this state is in and then look at who's behind it all. You get three guesses and the first two don't count.

Hi Bob!

Plenty of room here in Nebraska for you and your family! We are Republican state, with good gun laws and fresh air! Let me know if your brother got it worked out. Take Care!

The Best to you and Yours!

Frank

Frank,
Don't be surprised if I head out there some year. This place is ridiculous and probably only going to get worse. We'll see.

The mags are double stack types. I don't know if he's solved the problem or not but he narrowed it down to how the magazine latch fits it's corresponding hole in the mags. They don't bind any other place.

Heads up! Taurus has redesigned the magazines for the .45ACP 24/7 PRO. If you purchased one in the past few months, you most likely have the new mags included in the box. Mine was purchased relatively quickly after the 24/7 PRO hit the market and I had constant nosediving issues after 200+ rounds were put through the weapon. Taurus sent me the new mags after sending mine in, and they've been flawless.

From what I can tell, the feedlips were redesigned (not necessarily directly related to my specific problem), and the mag springs are much stronger. I feel that the increased spring strength cured my problems, and just might fix your problem if you're having trouble with the mag not wanting to eject from the grip when the mag release is pressed.

Bob, I have a PT145 Mil Pro that had a very similar problem. One magazine worked perfectly, but the second would not hold the slide back after the last shot, nor would it eject free when the mag release button was pressed. Close inspection did not reveal anything to me, so I stopped by the local gunshop/gunsmith. He bent the left hand lip out just a hair which allowed the spring a little more room to move, and now it works as it should.

Good luck with it.

asknight,

My brother's is new. It's only a couple of months old...

PP,
Thanks for that bit of info. I'll pass it along.
