Taurus 24/7 Question

Hi, years ago I wanted to purchase a Taurus 24/7, but then I read some bad reviews, so I put off buying it. But I hear now that Taurus has worked out the kinks and it is better then ever. In your opinion would this be a good self-defense gun? I plan on purchasing it in 9mm. Does the gun jam, and/or have other reliability issues? Also I heard it was quite inaccurate before, has that problem been fixed? For those of you that own one, what kind of groups are you getting?

i had an old model 24/7. it was DAO, the mags kinda sucked and the sights kept loosening.

the new model is much improved. the model I had wasnt bad, shot good aside from the minor issues.

I own four 24/7 Pro's currently. One .45 two .40's and one 9mm. Now the .40's I have had the longest, they are both well over the 2,000 round mark [each gun] and not ONE failure. I had a couple of WWB that failed to go off on the first strike, but the 24/7 sent the cartridge rocketing on the second strike and I never had to rack the slide, just like the ad says. The 9mm I have only owned a month but after 500 rounds it has been flawless! I have only owned the .45 for about an hour now. [my wife is going to kill me!] I am going Saturday to shoot that. But quite honestly they are dead reliable. When Taurus sends them to be tested by the gun magazine writers, they send them with 10,000 rounds and those rounds are always fired without a problem. Definitely worth the 370-400 it will cost you to get a 9mm.

I just bought 2 24/7 pro's 9mm and .40. I shot 50 rds. through a .40 24/7 my boss had and fell in love. I have also put a lot of rounds through a buddies Taurus pt111 millenium which is very similar to the 24/7. The 24/7 is one of the most comfortable guns i've shot.

I just put 50rds through a new Taurus PT 24/7 PRO in 9x19mmP yesterday with nary a bobble...

I'm quite impressed. The sights were even on for me right out of the box (although I really dislike the Heinie Straight-8 sights and will eventually change them out for a three-dot system)...

Admittedly, 50 rounds isn't much of a test, but it's still 50 rounds...

When I got my 24/7 Pro in 9mm I put 1200 rounds through it without cleaning it. Never failed once! I never thought I would actually like a Taurus but when I went it to buy my M&P I made the mistake of handeling the 24/7 pro. Bought it on the spot and never regretted it!

I own a 24/7 in .45. I bought it a year ago expecting to have a few FTF's because it seems this was pretty common in the .45 with the earlier models (before an apparent update to the magazines). After shooting approximately 500 rounds so far I have not had one FTF, or any issue. So far so good.

What is the trigger pull like? Is it similiar to the Glock or XD-9 or is it closer to a true DOA? Your replies have quieted my reliability concerns, but what of accuracy? What kind of groups are you getting at say, 25 yards? Also is the gun rated for +P and +P+ loads? While not a necessity, I would like to know if the option is open to me. I guess in short what I want to know is, would you trust your life to the 24/7? Thanks for all your input.

I would completely trust my life to my 24/7 and do because I carry it on a daily basis. The new Taurus manual stated the 24/7 Pro is +P rated but does not suggest a steady diet of it, as do many companies I’m sure. The trigger pull is a single action and I would say its in the 5-6lb range. I have not measured it but that would be my educated guess. It has a smooth feel and a crisp break. They are very accurate at least I shoot mine well. Others might not. I can’t say how others shoot with there pistols. This is a picture of 12 shots from a little over 14 yards using CCI Blazer Brass FMJ.

That is the one I carry. I have another one which is a 2006 model but the same in all regards as the 2007 I carry. I have been putting 500 rounds every 2 weeks on average through the pistol. I’m trying to get to 10,000 to test long term reliability. So far I am at round count 9500. Hopefully I will get to the range in the next week or so to finish off the 10,000 and I will be back letting everyone know.

Trigger pull was just a tiny bit gritty in SA when I first got the pistol. It has smoothed out greatly since. Not to worry. Call Buds and buy one. You will not regret it.
