I am considering this for hiking/backpacking in the Wyoming, Montana area. But I would like to load at LEAST 300 grn hard casts, maybe 340s if it can handle it. Anyone have one of these? Is the cylinder long enough for higher OAL cartridges? I'm not talking about +P .44 loads just heavier ones, I know it's not a Ruger :)

I got to shoot my friends at the range and some of his handloads were 300gr KSWC going at 1255 average for 5 shots out of his taurus ultralite. Recoil is stout to say the least, but thats the price you pay for a smaller package. The gun will take the abuse, Your hand might not.

As Barry said; the gun will take it, your hand is another matter. If it were me; I would carry the Federal® Vital-Shok® CastCore® 300gr LFN 44 Magnum ammunition. BTW, there is no such thing as 44 Magnum+P. The Taurus Handgun Manual(s) state.....

In addition, it seems some ammunition marked “+P” is not SAAMI compliant either.
There are only four calibers that can carry a “+P” rating from SAAMI. They are 38
Special +P, 9mm Luger +P, 38 Super Automatic and 45 Automatic +P. There are no
other SAAMI approved “+P” loads.
Any ammunition in any other caliber marked “+P”
is not SAAMI compliant, may be dangerous and should not be used. Whenever you are
buying “+P” ammunition, look for a notation on the box that states that the ammunition is SAAMI compliant!
