Greetings All

Got a few questions about the Taurus 450. I have a chance to buy two different Taurus 450's--One is a Taurus Ultra light .45 colt, 2" barrel for $400 used and the other a Standard Taurus 450 in .45 for $500 new. Replacing my Charter Arms .44 BullDog (retirement time) with the Taurus. So anyone have any suggestions about either of the Taurus's or their price. I did not know that Taurus built a Ultra Lite 450.

If you are going to carry it a lot, go with the ultralite. If not, go for the standard.

I would be -very- interested in purchasing the UL if you don't .. depending on condition. I might even consider the std one.

If you need to research Taurus 450s there is this for research purposes.

There is a fan club that would like the Taurus 450 to become a regular offered item again.

If you want to stay with the .44 Special then the Taurus 445 is the one to get. New ones are at the www.gunbroker.com , www.gunauction.com, and at www.gunsamerica.com , usually.

The 450 was built from 1999-2005. The UL model weighs 20 ounces. The regular model weighs 28 ounces. It's built on the Taurus compact frame.

There is also a titanium model as well. Made from 1999-2002.

100%:$425; 98%:375; 95%:$325; 90%:$275; 80%:$225; 70%:$185
ADD $31 for a UL model.
Model 450T:
100%:$500; 98%:$435; 95%:$375; 90%:$340; 85%:$275

The small number made do make it a more desirable item.

Add to that that gun prices have shot up over the last couple of years and the price might be considered a bit high even though prices have sky rocketed.

I own 7 Taurus 431 or 441s and none of them were that high in price. Close, but still lower. Granted, this is a different model and fewer 450s were made.

Here's a 445 in .44 Special for a lot less.

There is a big difference. If it is the 45 Colt cartridge you want the gun for then go for it if it fits you and your needs.

You also might want to consider the Model 415, basically the same revolver as the Model 450 but chambered in .41 Magnum and having a 2 1/2" ported barrel. This revolver (now discontinued) came in a light-weight and an all s/s version. Mine is the all-steel model and I have found it very controllable in terms of taming repeat shots under recoil. Not sure how the lighter, alloy version would fare in the same circumstance.

Do any of you Taurus fans know if they ever made a 5-shot 45 ACP? I swear I saw one once but have never been able to find another, particularly one for sale.
