I've got one. My great uncle had a Win63 he used to hunt Possum. I have many fond memories of that old Winchester. When I started building my own collection, a Win63 was on my list. Still is, if I ever see one going for a reasonable price. The Taurus doesn't take the Winchester off my list, but it lowers the priority by a good bit.
As the original poster mentioned, 'real' Win63's are priced well out of my price range for something I'm going to use to plink at soda cans with. When Taurus started producing a decent copy, I was all over it.
I'm quite happy with mine. Reliable, decent quality, good accuracy, it's a great little rifle. It won't replace my TC .22 classic, or my 10/22's, but it's earned a place in my safe, and regularly gets a little exercise. Why would anyone limit themselves to a single .22 rifle?
I see no reason not to pick one up while they're still available. It's not a huge seller for Taurus, and I'm sure that's the only reason they are discontinuing it. It just can't compete on a volume basis with a 10/22 or a Marlin 60. Taurus is in business to make money. If it wasn't selling, why continue making it?
