Taurus 905 9mm

I had been wanting a 9mm revolver. The suspects were:
S&W 940
Ruger Service Six
Ruger SP101
Taurus 905
I happened upon a new Taurus 905 in the box today for $275. I was a little reluctant because of the mixed reviews on Tauruses in general. However, most of what I read said that if they are good they are good and if they are defective you will know right away. I took a chance and got a winner.

This little gun put a grin on my face that lasted for hours. It is an absolute hoot to shoot and suprisingly accurate for a snubby. It has a snappy but controlable recoil. Reminds me of the 357 I grew up shooting. It was most exceptional during double action rapid fire. I put a string of 25 rapid fire shots in the 10 ring at 7 yards easily.

Trigger is very good and it ate boxes of ammo without issue both with and without the moon clips. The only complaint is the moon clips themselves. They are thin and flimsey and are just plain terrible. However, I like this gun so much, I am not sweating that short coming at all. I can see this gun moving to the top of my favorites.

Wondering here -- are moon clips proprietary to a particular gun? Do you have to use Taurus' moonclips?

I had a 940. Only Taurus makes the clips. They are terrible and with many common rounds the rounds just fall out. I carried mine and ended up with a pocket full of loose rounds.

With some of the +P rounds, the cases stick and are very hard to extract.

But the main reason I sold mine was several failures to fire due to apparent light strikes.

It's an interesting concept but a failure IMO.

If you want a 9mm revolver, find a Speed Six. I had one. 1/2 moon clips are solid and the gun is reliable.

LOL, this is not a "what should I get" thread. I have already bought and very much like the gun. I have just ordered some of the ranch clips for it based on some other very positive posts. If the ranch clips work as good as the others say, this gun will be one of my favorites and a candidate for hot weather CC.

Good luck,

I agree with the taurus stellar clips sucking big time! I had a Taurus 904 and found a Smith 940, well I ended up selling the Taurus because the moon clips for the Smith were thicker and held the ammo better. Like you I had many a loose ammo in my pocket. That and the Smith was SS.

parisite,
How do you like your 905?
I looked at two a couple of weeks ago, stainless and blue, and was tempted. Will 940 moonclips work in the 905?

The 905 is a very nice little carry piece and surprisingly accurate. I chrono'd some cheap Blazer aluminum FMJ out of it @ 1122fps, which I concluded short barrels don't hurt the 9mm much in performance as opposed to a .357.
The only thing I didn't like about it was the sharp, snappy recoil which stings your hand after a couple of cylinders full.
Extended range sessions with it I didn't much care for.

The Taurus is a 905, the S&W is a 940.
Yep, typo city

I am considering different ammos for it. There seems to be alot of people saying the lighter 115gr and 124gr bullets are optimal for the snubbies.
