Taurus corrosion?

Hey folks.
I just decided go get myself a new Taurus 1911 next weekend at the gunshow and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them in regards to corrosion. This 1911 is going to become my new "truck gun" and spend its existance under the seat of my truck.
Unfortuantly here in Texas with our heat & humidity, of all the guns that I've tried carrying in my truck (Kimbers, Berettas, Smiths, Sigs, etc.) all of them except a Glock have started to rust on me in fairly short order (the glock has never rusted once). Therefore if anyone has much experience with the stainless Taurus I'd like to hear from you. Thanks.

The Glock's frame and barrel are obviously metal and hence they are theoretically prone to corrosion. However I have yet to observe a Glock with corrosion on the barrel or slide(however I'm sure they are out there). I have found that just about everything else rusts, even stainless (the barrel on my Desert Warrior started rusting after just a weekend pig hunt) but some rust quicker than others, so I'd like to find where Taurus fits in.

I'd have to store it in something... wrap it in a silicon inpregnated gun sock, if nothing else.

Stainless will corrode, as will just about any metal, given the right conditions. The taurus would probably stand up as well as any stainless gun. Since the taurus 1911 is so new, I doubt that anyone has done any independent torture tests on it yet.

On that particular weapon, the taurus 1911's are unavailable around here, can you get them in your area? My pusher (gun dealer) tells me that he can't get them yet.

I don't mean to come off sounding like some facetious smartass, but what do you have against common-sense maintenance? Would 1-minute weekly maintenance be a problem?
Seriously, it's not too difficult to find an adequate case to keep the firearm in and to apply a light coat of oil on the surfaces once a week (or immediately after handling). By all means, keep a bottle of CLP and a wipe-down rag somewhere in your truck and take a minute or two once a week to inspect your handgun, wipe it down and to apply a new coat.

I don't keep a firearm in my vehicle ever since having my Russian Makarov (which was hidden) stolen from mine. However, when I did have it, it was oil just about every week... and we're talking ordnance steel that will rust in short order. Never had a problem.

If you find yourself unable to do this for whatever reason, a Glock isn't a bad choice as the frame is, of course, polymer and though the slide and barrel are steel quite capable of rusting, the Tenifer finish has proven rust resistant. Or, simply pick an existing handgun from your collection, send it out to be electroless nickel plated from a reputable company such as EABCO for a fair price. Not exactly the best for wear, but the entire handgun (sans the barrel) will be hermetically sealed.
My most carried pistol, a first generation Kahr K9, sports a factory-issued electroless nickel finish that has seen plenty of sweaty 12 hour days in a bellyband or IWB holster... not a speck of rust to be found. Come to think of it, despite being carried in a leather belt holster in the winter and fall months, there's no conspicuous holster wear (after 8 years of carry)... that's not a bad track record.

That said, any finish will work find regardless of the humidity assuming you do your part by performing adequate firearm maintenance. BTW, if humidity is truly a nightmare where you live, avoid storing your handgun in a leather holster, I've seen bad things happen.
