Not sure if this has been posted here before, if so i apologize for the redundancy. I know that people have mentioned this commercial, but i'm not sure as to whether or not anyones posted a direct link to it. I have to say its absolutely amazing how much damage this appears to do at close range. http://taurususa.com/video/taurus-theJudge-video.cfm
Enjoy, and again i apologize if this has already been posted here.

That looks cool. Any dealers in the Metro Area have them yet?
I know a couple guys at the gibraltar trade center gun shows have them, but not sure about dealers around here. If you want more info, just send me a pm and i can give you the numbers of one dealer (i have the card), though i'm not sure how much they sell them for.

Completely retarded! .410 shotshells are for killing little birds.

I agree, and out of a longer barrel at that. I really, really think I can hit a man's head no problem with my .38 at any range the a .410 shot load would be effective. But, I guess, the .38 does require you to learn marksmanship skills. You can't just put it in the general direction and pull the trigger and get a hit, however small. I'm not convinced 2 #7 1/2s in the cheek/throat is as good as one 158 grain hollowpoint in the head, though.:neener:

I am less than convinced about this gun's utility as a self-defense tool as well, (I still want one for a woods gun though), however, the new 3" chamber would allow use of those 5-pellet 000 buck loads, which I can see doing some serious scumbag parts-swapping....

.410 for personal defense? It's better than an angry look, but that's about it

The video says "Taurus, the world's foremost pistol maker" I disgaree...

Looks like they used birdshot for the demo. It'll do a number on paper, but the best you could hope for on a person would be to poke their eyes out. And if they're wearing glasses, it won't even do that much probably. And the .410 buckshot is basically a gimmick, from a pistol. Wouldn't be too atrocious from a full sized shotgun, but from a little revolver, you'd basically have the equivalent of shooting someone 5 times with a .32 auto with very wimpy (around 500-600 fps probably) ammo.

Any volunteers to let me shoot them in the face at 5 feet with one of those? :p

I think that would seriously monkey you up.

Now, is there a need for it? Not really, but it would be neat to have one I suppose...

Thunder 5

I used to have a gun like the Judge. Think it was the Thunder Five. Same principle for self defense as in the commercial for the Judge. It was really good for killing snakes! Spent alot of time on my hip at the farm. If I ever would have to use it in self defense, I would probably beat the BG with it.

Is a pistol like that legal? I thought shotties had to have a certain barrel length?

Quit cigs 4W 2D 19h 32m ago. So far saved $184.88, 1,232 cigs not smoked and counting ...

That's what I was thinking. Getting shot is getting shot.

How much more effective (if any) would this thing be if you loaded it up with .45 Long Colt?

A whole heckuva lot! .410 slug about 90 grains at about 1000 fps maybe out of the short barrel. .45 cal .255 grain bullet at about 800 fps. You do the math. The .45 has MUCH more sectional density, will penetrate completely.

No, I ain't gonna stand in front of it and get shot with bird shot, but I sure ain't goin' to use bird shot in preference to a .45 Colt for self defense! I wanna stop the guy, not sting him a little! If he's intent on killing me, the .45 is where my trust lies to stop the fight. So, question is, why make the cylinder that friggin' long when you don't have to? Taurus makes a .45 Colt 5 shot snubby that's a lot more compact. Personally, I have a .38 caliber model. With light loads, I have no problem hitting snake's heads with it, too, further away than that .410 would be effective on a snake. I just can't see the point except that of making a profit for Taurus selling these things to folks who think it's the ultimate stopper. The only think I don't know about the .410 is how those five ball 000s might be effective and short ranges. It might have some merit, there, but I'd just as soon chunk a 255 grain piece of lead at .45 colt velocities, I think. I sure ain't voluteering to stand in front of that! If I only have that and the bird shot for choices, I will probably survive the bird shot and might even be able to return fire and kill the BG before he hits me with another charge of dove loads.

Guys, maybe I'm too optimistic, but at the given range shown on the Taurus video (say five feet from drivers seat to passenger side window), I'm certain that a round of .410 birdshot from that gun would kill you dead dead dead. Aiming at the head, with that load at that distance would almost guarantee you a lethal shot.

Remember, the bones behind the human eye are eggshell thin and behind that is brain matter (in some people :neener: ). There are numerous arteries right under the skin in the neck also. 2" of penetration would be lethal in a face/head/neck shot.

You're way too optimistic. You're counting on an eye shot? What if your attacker is wearing glasses? What if he throws his arms up in front of his face just before you shoot? Did you roll your window down before you fired?:banghead:

The wounding potentental of this weapon with birdshot is going to be about equal to some bad road rash, shallow and bloody but far from a reliable fight stopper.

My big question about the revolver itself is- Did the engineers at Taurus do anything to deal with the weight of this gun's gigantic 5-shot cylinder? How much DA shooting will cause this gun to beat itself out of time?

I've said it before and I'll say it again... good possum gun. Now if a possum is trying to rob/kill me, I'd be all over that.

More realistically though, I think that a face full of birdshot, eventhough it might not be instantly lethal, would be a pretty damn good deterent for those who can't shoot all that great (especially in a high stress situation). That said, I'd stick with a different round.
