The ILS on the Taurus will thread out.

You can remove it by applying a little more force with the "key" than you'd think prudent. The whole locking crew comes out.

so is the frame and slide on these guns cast or what? how can they be that cheap?

well of course but SA pistols are using forged slides and frames and RIA pistols are using cast slides and frames. it seems that the taurus is closer to RIA + custom work price than the standard SA Loaded price. I bet they are cast slides and frames

wow i did some research and you're right! I'd really like to see one first hand and find out about parts interchangability. At first I thought this was going to turn out like the Auto Ord 1911 but this is shaping up to be a good deal.

They are forged.

If the gun works well, then maybe we have been paying too much for our 1911s. :)

You gotta love "competition" and the free market.

The gun is forged.

One gun mag article on it some time ago quoted the president of Taurus USA that the reason they could offer them at such an affordable price is that all the parts are done in house. They aren't buying parts from someone else who needs to have profit figured into the price of the part. So, that helps keep prices down.

As for interchangability- Taurus claims 100% interchangability with other 1911 parts.

Gunblast.com has an excellent article and video about the new Taurus 1911...check it out!

I've been waiting for this gun for about 18 months, since I first saw photos of it at the 2005 SHOT show. It sounds like it will exceed all my expectations. I see one in my future.
