Taurus PT-809 Finally got one! Range Report

Some months back I bought the PT-845 (.45 ACP) and really liked the way it shot and how it fit my hand and the looks of the gun and...OHhhh...you get the point!
I had decided I was going to get the PT-809 (9mm Luger) when it finally became available. Well last week I picked one up and shot it over the weekend. The gun performed well. I really enjoyed shooting it. Felt recoil (My opinion) was very low. It shot as well as its big brother PT-845
I know some of you have been interested in the PT-809. I had a hard time getting one. If it weren't for my dealer being my friend and really keeping an eye out for one I don't think I would have gotten one by now. Anyone else has been able to buy one at this time?
So far I have nothing but good opinions on both guns. The only complaint I have about the PT-845 (.45 ACP) is that it tends to rub the living heck out of my trigger finger with the trigger guard everytime I shoot it until it becomes sore! I am going to try changing the grip back strap to see if it helps. Strangely...the 9mm didn't do that! Both guns are dead on at ten yards. I am getting ragged holes at ten yards also. I also find that loading the mags is a whole lot easier if you use the little tool supplied with the guns. Also...H&K USP holsters will fit these guns! I haven't found spare magazines yet. Somewhere here I thought I read somebody said that Para Ord mags will fit them. Well I went to my prefered gun shop where I tested that theory and NO...I don't believe that is accurate. The mags are not compatible. I will need to contact Taurus for extra mags I suppose.

Thanks for the report. I have held (and fondled) both the 9 and the 45 at a recent gun show. These guns feel really nice. I've always been partial to guns that have exposed hammers like these, and I can definitely see myself having one or both of these further down the road...

Thanks for the report. I seriously looked at one last saturday and will probably get one. The 709 felt like a really well made piece and seemed to function well. I really liked the trigger pull.

I guess you meant you held the PT-809 or was it the 709? I have had no experience with the 709! I guess the diff is that it's a single stack vs. double stack that the 809 is. Personally I recommend the 809 and 845. I have not shot the 840 yet but I imagine it would be the same deal! I am not a professional shooter but I have shot a lot and many different guns and do like the design of these PT-800s and how they perform. (All personal opinion)

Attached is a picture of one of the targets. 17 rds. of 9mm at 10yds. standing. As you can see I completely missed the little shoot-n-see dot.

MakeMyDay: Yes, I screwed up. At my age, 809, 709....what's the difference ....I looked at so many Taureses the other day that I have problems with the numeric designations. I was indeed referring to the 709, but when I read 809 my brain just exchanged models. I actually do it quite a bit.

One thing I can say about Taurus - they FEEL really great. I love the slide action and the overall smooth way all the machinery moves together. I handled most of the main Taurus pistols and they all feel so "buttery". I'm going to have to get one. I think if and when I get one, i'll pretty much just sit around and rack the slide and dry fire it, like I used to smoke cigarettes. It's that satisfying....

Congratulations on your purchase! I picked up the PT840 this past Saturday but have yet to take it out for any range time. I hope to rectify that in the near future and run a few rounds through it.

Congrats on the pick. I've got all my 9x19 pistols know, but the 809 would be on the list if needed.

Since acquiring my PT840 I've finally had the opportunity to run 100 rounds through it. I can say that I'm extremely pleased with this pistol from the ergonomics and feel in my hands to the functionality, accuracy and aesthetics. It's definitely a keeper and now I'm coveting both a PT845 and a PT809.

Don't know if this fits your taste or budget, but if you are going to shoot .45s I'd take a look at the 1911. I really like mine. Not quite as smooth or well fit as my old Colt, but a fine sturdy shooter. Oh, and it's about one-third the price of a comparable Colt.
