I took my new PT92's grips off, and the little U shaped "Safety Spring" flew out. I have fought with this thing for a while, and cannot get it to stay put. From the looks of it the only thing the U shaped spring does is......

What does this spring do?

Can I leave it out and just put the grip back on?

I don't know what it's called but it's for the safety/decock lever. My PT-99 in stainless doesn't seem to care whether on not it's there but after XXX thousand rounds it may make a difference.

Stay safe.

My PT92 has the decoker as well. I couldn't tell a difference with or without the spring there, but wanted to be sure before I test fired it. The spring looks like it is on all of their autos, except the polymer line, so it's there for a reason, I just don't know what.

HERE's the trick guys...the spring is to assist the safety, it helps it stay in its "safe" location while carrying cocked and locked. The top left grip screw is in two parts....a screw bushing that screws into the frame ...it holds the spring in place. A smaller spring goes through the grip and screws into the bushing. Most people cant tell..just that the upper screw doesnt come out of the grip..its in two pcs. If you get the spring retaining bushing in the frame tight with the spring in place. You dont have to worry about it anymore...make sense?
Shoot well. If I can help further just let me know.....:neener:

Thanks PCRCCW. I figured it helped the safety, but it doesn't help much, and I don't carry this gun cocked and locked. I'll try to get the spring to stay when Taurus ships me my bushing. I screwed mine up trying to remove it from the grip.

Thanks again all.
