hi,

can the integrated lock (Taurus Security System or TSS) on the Taurus PT92/99 be easily removed (either by me or by a gunsmith at a reasonable cost)?

i seem to recall reading that on the Taurus revolvers (the 66 for example) it's a simple process of backing what amounts to be a set screw out of the gun. there's a hole that remains but the lock is gone. is that the case on the PT92/99?

i searched both THR and the net and found no specific reference to this procedure.

thanks

If you have any intention of using this firearm as a defensive piece I'd have to tell you that this is a terrible idea. Can you imagine answering some lawyers questions as to why you removed a safety device from your firearm. Frankly I don't really get why so many folks are torn up about the locks. It truly strikes me as an option to be used by those who like it and ignored by those who don't. The Taurus design is about as inoffensive as any I've encountered however to answer your question, I'd have to say that you're best bet is to try to find a gunsmith and see if they can figure out a plan. Most likely the mechanism can be removed without too much trouble.
