The magazine in my Taurus PT92 will not slide in to place. It did yesterday and has done so every time I've taken it out and put it back in for years. Does the ejector button ever get stuck and is it something I should be able to fix myself or should I have it looked at by a gunsmith ... does anyone know where I could find a takedown diagram for this gun. Thank you and have a great week.

If the mag release button gets stuck, you can tell because it won't stick out as much. Sometimes, the PT92 mag release will rotate slightly in its recess; you can always try wiggling it back and forth (rotate it) slightly to see if it frees up.

Hello,
I have the same gun, though I've never had that particular problem. I'm assuming you mean that the magazine release is not engaging the slot in the magazine when you insert it. For the most part, disassembly is the same as its Beretta cousin; see http://www.beretta92fs.com/ for more info. IIRC, all you need to do to take out the magazine release button assembly is to tap out a single (vertical) pin that holds the assembly in with a small hammer and a 1/16" pin punch (preferably a 2mm punch if you have it). I suspect the spring inside the assembly can be replaced only at the factory (*I think*) since it appears to be a self-contained part. However, if that is the problem, I'd just order the part directly from Taurus (if its =<$35-40), because you'd spend that much on overnight air to ship it to the service dept in Miami, and you'd be without it for 4-8 weeks, or maybe more depending on how peppy the Taurus gunsmiths are feeling! Another alternative problem could be that the metal bit of the mag release that goes into the magazine slot is worn rounded, so it won't hold, but that seems doubtful unless you've been slamming the mag home vigorously and often enough to damage the metal a good bit....
Good luck, and let us know if you have any more questions,

The Taurus PT92 I have in my hand is different than the Beretta. To remove the magazine from the Taurus all that is required is to remove the magazine and check the bore to be sure weapon is unloaded. Press the magazine release button all the way in and unscrew the other side of the release button from the piece you are pressing on. Remove both pieces and the spring. Clean and inspect magazine release parts and the hole in the frame they came out of. A very light coat of grease in the hole in the frame and reverse the above to reassemble. It's that simple.

Submin, I wonder if Taurus has changed the mag release style during the PT92's production history... My PT92 is about 3 years old, with the decocker/safety. Is yours comparable in date of manufacture? I'd personally prefer to have the mag release like yours, instead of like mine that requires a pin punch to remove.

I bought mine in 1988 or 1989 if I'm not mistaken. No decocker/safety. Haven't had the first bit of trouble from the mag release. Rear adjustable sight loosened once and the trigger return spring broke once but other than that I've had no trouble out of the Taurus. Still shoots tight groups and bangs with every trigger pull. Finish shows a lot of wear.

Thanks y'all ... it was a simple matter of turning the mag release button and now it works fine ... wonder if it is supposed to function as a lock or something ? I appreciate all the assistance offered.

If your release is turning enough to jam unintentionally, you may want to tighten the two pieces one more turn. Op manual says nothing about your symptom being a lock of any sort. But a weapon than doesn't allow you to insert a mag under any circumstance isn't one I'd trust as a carry weapon.
