I saw one at the store tonight and really liked the look feel and trigger pull.

Anyone here have one or can comment on it?

Thanks!

I've owned this old model Taurus 92 for years and its a good gun that's put many thousands of ammo down range. The Taurus is a very reliable handgun, never had a jam that wasn't due to a bad round of ammo that would have jammed any pistol. I regually carry it in the car for defense when traveling.

I am a new owner of a PT92 AFS. It's about the best 9mm shooter I own. I also have a CZ75b which is stellar, a S&W 1911 which is terrific, and a Kahr 9mm which is superior. But the PT92 is the most well balanced combination of great trigger and accuracy of all of them. This sounds incredibly boastful, but it's true. Taurus is basically making a Beretta 92 and have been since they bought the factory and equipment. It's a very high value piece and really well manufactured. I said this recently, but the PT92 is so accurate that it almost becomes boring to shoot it. It's great for short, medium, or long distance.

It has a trigger pull which is sublime. Has zero effect on aim and is just a pleasure to execute. The gun points well. If i had to either let the CZ75 go, or the Taurus 92 ; i'd probably keep the Taurus 92. i don't know. It's that close between them, and frankly - the Taurus is a totally different gun. Both are like butter and both are boringly accurate, but the Taurus 92 (and Beretta 92) are the most tested military weapons since the 1911.

I guarantee you will not be disappointed with the acquisition of a PT92.

Do I like the gun. Yes, i'm ecstatic with it. Best shooting 9mm there is in my opinion. It's big and a bit heavy, but so well balanced you won't mind.
It's a beautiful machine. I have the stainless steel model and I can't stop picking it up and looking at it.

Now get one!!!!

I have the PT917 version (a bit shorter in the slide). I too am quite impressed with it. It's *so* easy to shoot well that I frankly don't. Like my 1911, it shots so well I never take it to the range.... in stead I take one of my compacts - now THEY take practice.

My Taurus PT99 has been one of my favorite hunting weapons for many years. I have added the 40 cal version in the past couple of years but still prefer the 99.

I CCW a PT101 (.40 cal.) version of the 92 frame size during cool weather here. I've never been "made" doing so, either. While hiding something of that size, no matter the manufacturer, in a tee-shirt and jeans is going to be truly hard, any type of wind-breaker in cool weather will allow it.;)

I have purchased a different gun but will probably buy this one next!

Thanks for your direction and input!

This is a Beretta copy correct? Or is it actually made by Beretta?

I get confused because Stoegars seem like Beretta too

I had one for years.

Good gun.

There was one type of hollow point it didnt like. Dont remember which.

I put thousands upon thousands of rounds through it. No failures and accurate.

But all this was before I got on these gun forums and learned Taurus is crap.;)

I have a Mil Pro thats been a champ too.:)

The Taurus PT92 is not really a copy of the Beretta 92, it's actually the Beretta 92. Same equipment, design, production lines, everything. Taurus has added or subtracted some non-essential features, but has not done anything to change the basic structure of what it purchased back in the 80's (which was the Beretta factory and equipment). Taurus just started pumping out pistols with Their name on them instead of Beretta.

It's a superb gun.

Another true believer here. No matter what else I take to the range I always take my 99AF (92 with adjustable sights.)
It's my winter carry gun, and it's accurate, reliable and just plain fun to shoot.

From the Taurus USA website:
"Beretta had won a huge contract in 1974 to produce small arms for the army of Brazil. Part of the deal was that Beretta construct a Brazilian factory and use Brazilian labor. This they did, in the southwestern coastal city of Sao Paulo. When the contract ran out in 1980, Beretta sold the plant, literally "lock, stock and barrel," to Taurus. Taurus now owned everything that once belonged to Beretta, including drawings, tooling, machinery, and a very experienced work force. Taurus was in the pistol business, and immediately sought to improve on the Beretta design, resulting in the popular and acclaimed Taurus PT-92 and PT-99 9mm pistols."

At the time, Beretta was producing the original version of the M92. Below is a photo of mine made in 1977. Note frame-mounted safety.

I had one years ago. Great 9mm.

If Taurus is making them like they used to that is. They are having some serious quality problems with their newer models.

I love mine. Have about 300rds through it and no issues yet with both factory 17 rounders and Mec-Gar 20 rounders.

I just took it all apart to get the rest of the factory gunk out and the Safety Spring bushing came off with the grip screw. This was a PITA to get back together, but after reading through taurusarmed I found a few suggestions and got it all put back together.

Overall, I like it better than the G17 and the Walther P99 that my friends own.

I bought a PT-92 for my son 5 years ago as his first centerfire pistol (he started off with my Beretta Model 70S until I got him a Walther P22). Together we've probably put a a couple of thousand rounds through it. The gun has been flawless with nary a jam or misfeed all this time. I've been particularly impressed with its fit and finish, its reliability, and its multi-functional safety.

I've owned one for 20 years. Phenominal reliability; very accurate. I prefer the frame mounted safety to the Beretta's slide mount. The quality is comparable now, and the price is starting to reflect that as they are fairly close now.

Even if they were the same money, I would take the Taurus.

PT-92 was my first pistol. I didn't care for the grip some much so I put some Hogue thing on it I think. Other than that I've got no real complaints, never misfed, well-balanced and accurate. I too prefer the frame safety to the original Beretta.

There is one thing that is annoying about this pistol, there are a lot of grooves on the inside of the slide. Can take some time when cleaning.

PT-92c was my first pistol as well back in the mid-80s. Still have that baby today - action is buttery smooth now after what is probably over 15K rounds through it. NEVER a problem with that gun.

If you like the one you looked at it, and it felt good in the hand, buy it.
