Has anyone heard of the Taurus PT92 suffering from locking block failures like that of the Beretta M9?

it's inherent of the design, you just have to change it after 4000 rds. The good thing is that that's the only part taking the beating, and the other parts aren't wearing as fast.

Maybe 4000 rounds of hot stuff, but whenever I read about locking blocks cracking, it's usually high round counts (over 20,000). Maybe this would be the subject of a good poll.

No. And I have a PT-92 purchased new in 1991 or so that's got well over 20,000 rounds through it ... and with the Taurus lifetime warranty, it shouldn't be a worry anyway. I've encountered a lot of PT-92 owners over the years, and never heard any stories of this pistol's locking block breaking. Finally, my experience with Taurus customer service has been favorable, so I don't think getting a replacement at no cost would be an issue.

I've seen Berettas crack locking blocks numerous times but I've heard the newer ones are better in durability. This was in a range rental enviorment though.

I've never seen a Taurus get the rental abuse dso I'm not sure if they are any better in durability though I've heard they are.

I think replacement locking blocks ran about $50.

Beretta is now putting a radius on each side of the locking block "ears" where the cracks were prone to form. That should alleviate the stress that used to cause breakage, and thus you should get plenty of life out of the locking block. Exactly how long it'll last is still a matter of chance, depending on various factors. Basically, if you can get 20,000 rounds out of ANY pistol before something important breaks you're doing pretty good.

I traded for a PT99 that had a broken locking block because I knew Taurus has a lifetime warranty. Sent it to Taurus and they fixed it for free. While they had it, they did a trigger job for $60. and that trigger was shweeeet.

They do break and it's no big deal.
