Hi guys,
I am considering a new pistol. I am a police officer and already own a Glock 22 RTF, which I love. I want a reasonably cheap 9mm to just shoot for fun. I have looked at the Taurus PT92. It looks good and fits like a Berretta. Is it accurate and does it perform well? I look forward to your responses and would be interested in other pistols as well. I have a budget of 400 or less.

Thank you,
Dale Gann

It seems to be a good pistol, probably one of Taurus's better autos. They've been making it for a while...

Love Mine

I have had a PT-92 AF (manufactured in 2002) since new. I love that gun. No malfunctions. more accurate than I am. i have owned other Taurus products that I was not happy with, but that particular gun is sweet IMHO. It eats any ammo that I have tried, and I trust it enough to carry it on a daily basis.

great gun that many actually prefer to the current barreta model. I like them. Accuracy and overall performance is great. For around that price I would also look at the Alpha Combat... a new import of the witness (cz75 copy.)

I had a PT 92 a long time ago, and I had problems with it. Light firing pin strikes, and the double action started slipping, releasing the hammer before it was all the way back. I got rid of it.

I did like the frame-mounted safety.

If I were looking for a 9mm, just to have one, I would look for a used G-17. If I'm not mistaken, you can change the barrel and magazine in your G-22 and shoot 9mm. (Ask some pros before you try it though.)

Does anyone else know aout this? That would be awesome!

Best pistol Taurus makes and a great bargain at current prices. Mine has been great.

My PT92 is one of the best pistols I've owned. It has an absolutely superb trigger (better than ANY Glock) and has been perfect through thousands of rounds. It's very accurate and one of the best bargains out there. If you don't trust Taurus, you can probably get a used Beretta for close to what you can get the Taurus. They really are pretty much the same pistol though.

If you've not shot one, do yourself a favor and do so before you buy anything else. The trigger is very similar to that on a 1911. It's sweet.

Mine is great. First pistol I bought for myself and it has never had any problems at all, never a failure. It is very accurate and I like the frame mounted safety. I'd get another.

I have a taurus pt99 which runs great. Here are 9mm conversion barrels for glock if you want to go that route. Mark

It's a great gun if you like large, heavy guns. I've had no problems with mine. Plenty accurate. Not sure what it would add on top of your glock other than being 9mm.

Shot several, worth the money IMO, and yet another gun on my list when I can once again afford to buy something "just because." I currently have no use for one.

The Beretta 92 is a couple hundred more, and its worth it with the much better fit and finish. The PT92 will eventually get as smooth as the round count goes up, and the PT92 has the safety in the right spot.
