Hello.

I know there are tons of threads on the Taurus 92's, but I am asking about the LATEST PT92's to hit the shelves, since there hasn't been much talk about them here lately.

In short, I am contemplating picking up a Stainless PT92 instead of a Beretta 92, which I've always wanted. I guess I just can't quite stomach Beretta's inclusion of plastic parts in the new 92's, so I was wondering how the newer production Taurus equivelents were holding up, if anybody has one.

Yes, I've had Taurus's before, and I won't get into the dissatisfying experience with their customer service I had over a PT100 that I ended up being only too happy to trade away ... but that was years ago and in a different caliber. Is the PT92 worth taking a chance on Taurus again?

Also, will Lasergrips fit the Taurus series?

BTW what I am wanting is a soft-recoiling/fast-shooting 9mm for range use and home defense. Add in enough accuracy for informal target shooting, say < 2.5" at 25 yds., and I couldn't really ask for more out of an auto. A nice single-action trigger would also be nice.

So, would you buy another PT92?

beretta grips won't fit a taurus because the taurus has a frame mounted safety/decocker instead of the slide mounted one like a beretta.

My taurus Pt92 has been 100% reliable. It has performed as well if not better than every beretta i have shot.

Did you know?

In the new Taurus catalog, the 2003 92AR /100AR's have Picatinny rails on them.

Here is a pic of the one I just purchased and a target shot at 15 yds freehand. I've had several Beretta's and I much prefer the frame mounted safety of the Taurus. Fit and finish is excellent and hi caps are still pretty easy to find at reasonable prices.

Rblack, that gun looks sweet. I don't have any closeup shots of my Taurus, but here's a pick of my collection with the taurus in it. Your accuracy results are pretty much what i expect from mine. 10 shots generally leaves a tight group of holes or one big ragged hole.

One thing i don't like is that the front sight is part of the slide...i would have liked to swap in night sights. I'm sure it can still be done (you can get them from the factory on a new gun), but not for the $60 it cost me to do meprolight's on my HK. That's OK though because my HK is my primary HD pistol now.

I highly recommend the G-Code hoster and mag holder.

IMHO, the 92/99/100/101 series are the best guns taurus makes.

Rblack,
Was that two different Taurus' put together, if not what is the exact model number, I really like that.

Dang Rod, that's pretty sweet accuracy. And such a nifty looking 9 ya got there. Thank you so much, that is exactly the kind of info I needed.

BTW, how is your SA trigger?

Ultrastar, I have seen the guns with the rail on them. I don't really know what to think of them though. While I've been known to hang all sorts of accessories on my pistols, I feel the rail ruins the gun's good looks.

SA trigger on my taurus pt92 is excellent. zero takeup and a break that puts glass rods to shame. It's only gotten better with time. about 4# break. DA is also good, but long. Has also improved with a thousand shots fired.

Not to muddy the waters here, but I just noticed that for not much more, I could have a SW99C 9mm (compared to the Stainless PT92). I'm wondering what, if anything, the SW99C could do for me that the Taurus couldn't.

Anybody know about them?

I recently traded away a PT92, don't regret it though. The PT92 was a good shooter and I had zero problems with it. I was looking for another single action 1911 and needed to use as a trade to get what I wanted.

I like the looks of the SW99, but I can not get used to that magazine release. I've shot one a few times and just can't seem to find the release. Guess I'm too use to the button.

Good Luck Hunting.

Thanks for reassuring me about the trigger Club. Being the way things are, I'll have to order the pistol to get one around here. I've tried the triggers on them in the past, but not recently, so I was wondering.

Ordering a gun is a lot like ordering a guitar, a crap-shoot in terms of how the individual sample is gonna be. I much prefer to handle exactly what I'm buying beforehand, but such is the way things are here in WVa ... no selection. I don't think I've ever even seen a Walther 9mm here.

GHarsh, sounds like another thumbs-up for the PT92, thanks for your input. I've done the 1911 thing and can see why you would do that. Actually that would be better for my purposes, but I just couldn't make myself purchase another one. I hate the fieldstrip sequence with a passion, and don't want to go through the headache of getting a reliable one in 9mm.

ultrastar, This is a special run and the model # is 1-920151SPL. This gun shoots very nicely. I bought a hi cap mag when I got the gun and that target is 15 rnds.

The Mighty Beagle, The sa trigger pull on this pistol is actually pretty good. Although I'm used to my 1911's triggers, I think it will get even better with time, like clubsoda said.

The 911 is a fine pistol but it lacks any aftermarket stuff. And hi-caps are readily availible for the 92.

Thanks Rod, appreciate the info.

As for the 911, I have heard good things and they fit me really well, but I just don't have the same level of trust in it. I like Taurus but have owned some very error-prone guns from them. No need to deviate from good 'ole Beretta engineering for me. When Taurus chambered the 92 in .40, I got one and despite 3 trips back to them it never could get through a magazine of anything other than 180 gr. lead TC bullets. I mean they replaced darn near everything in that gun, but I still couldn't get it to work on anything else. How sad, it was a terrific gun in all other ways. I guess that's why I've always wanted the 9mm version, thinking it would be more reliable.
