Taurus Spectrum
I'm not much of a Tauri fan but the little TCP has shown a lot of promise and improvement over the years, and since the company came under new management they have been constantly improving their products, so I;m kinda eyeballing the new Spectrum as something to pocket carry it is a DAO 380 and it has some real futuristic in the classic "Buck Rogers" type lines to it, will it win me over from buying a LCP? hard to say at the moment but I do want to handle and manipulate one a little for sure

Is that a stand it's sitting on or is it the ugliest magazine base ever designed? I liked the TCP. Is this supposed to replace it or just another notch up the chain?

Looks like they put some thought into it. No trigger pull for takedown and rubber grips where you want them. Not a sharp edge anywhere.

Hope it runs well, too.

Styling of the new Taurus Spectrum reminds me a lot of a scaled downed version of the old South African Vektor CP1 9mm. pistol.

In many of the black/stainless/grey combinations, it looks almost futuristic.

In many of the other colors, it looks like a toy sucker dart pistol.

I'm concerned about the durability of the soft touch panels. Many soft touch rubbers can't even stand up to the interior of a pocket, let alone solvents and oils. I'm not saying I don't trust Taurus to keep this in mind, but I don't.

MSRP is $289, which puts it between the stainless and blued TCP's. After it's established, it might go for less than $200 on sale.

When I bought my Taurus 738 TCP a few days ago, the LGS told me that Taurus discontinued them. (I guess I better stock up on extra mags for it!) They also told me they're expecting the Spectrum in but didn't know when. I was impressed with the feel and quality of the TCP, (chose it over the LCP), it just felt better in my hand. I'm anxious to see the Spectrum as well. Question... what is a reasonable time to wait before throwing down hard earned cash on a new model Taurus? I too have noticed that quality seems to have improved but there always seems to be something a manufacturer wishes to change. I'm too old to be a guinea pig.

I love my tcp but that spectrum looks nice. I really did not want to go and buy another 380. Do I trade in my tcp , give it to one of my kids or just keep it. the problem with keeping it is getting future parts for it. they already did that to my pt 145.

I've helped friends locate magazines for their discontinued Taurus guns. I'm retired so I have the time! Some of them were difficult to find, (and consequently... expensive!). Save your TCP for when I'll need parts! I'm good on mags though, I just bought 3 OEM mags through CDNN. They're only $14.99. (Buy 'em all up for resale on eBay later. Earn that Spectrum!).

That magazine release button is going to be a serious problem when it comes to pocket carry. It protrudes too much and they mounted it on the swell of the grip. You're going to have to have a thick custom pocket holster with a cutout for the button or you're going to release the magazine every time you sit down.

I'm concerned about the durability of the soft touch panels. Many soft touch rubbers can't even stand up to the interior of a pocket, let alone solvents and oils. I'm not saying I don't trust Taurus to keep this in mind, but I don't.
+1 -- I had the soft-touch overmolded coating on a BSA scope turn to crud just sitting on the shelf. It got gummy and melded with the dust that had settled on it. It became a tacky, gooey, unusable mess.

Coming from a company that's still trying to figure out how to finish a recall of half their pistols ever sold, and combined with the worst customer service in the industry, I have under 0 interest in anything they will ever have to offer, even if it was a flying, cloaking, laser firing space gun.

I really like all the rounded edges, the wide flat trigger, and the takedown system. I had that same quarter-turn takedown button on my Beretta Nano and loved it. I think the design is great. How well Taurus executes it remains to be seen.

I notice a slot in the frame where I suspect one can see the serial number stamped into the internal mechanicals, which makes me think they are planning for easily swapping out the frames at some future time. That would be a good idea, especially if the soft-touch material isn't as durable we would like. Also, I suppose there will be people who want to swap frames just to change colors. There may be a decent market in just frames in the future, which I'm sure Taurus wouldn't mind.

At any rate, I'm definitely curious to see this little puppy whenever it hits the shelves, and if it comes in around $200.00 I'll probably get one just for giggles and grins.
