Agree with Old Fuff. I see the point of porting on Taurus's superlight Magnums, e.g., the wacky Titanium .41 Magnum (!!) snubby.
What I, and lots of others, objected to was Taurus's policy of mandatory porting on guns that clearly didn't need it. For example, the little alloy .32 H&R Mag. Model 731, the steel-frame .45 ACP Tracker, and the steel-frame Model 445 snubby in .44 Special. These are all really cool revolver concepts that, for me, were ruined by mandatory porting. (I hear the current run of 731s is unported; a good sign.)
Revolvers are loud and flashy enough. Don't port them unless it's genuinely necessary. Especially if we're talking about potential defense guns like the three just named.
