I needed to have a 22 LR revolver in DA/SA. I saw a few revolvers such as the Ruger SP-101, Ruger LCR, and a S&W 22 LR. I liked the S&W but the price was a bit high for a 22 LR in my mind. I love my S&W Performance Center revolvers but I could not resist when I saw this gun:

It changes cylinders in less than 20 seconds. The trigger action felt very good. I'm not a fan of the sights or the grips. I changed the grips to a monogrip by Hogue. I'll change the sights, too, to Meprolights or Trijicon.

I have had one for over a year (6 1/2" bbl). It was very accurate right out of the box. A little on the heavy side but my favorite rimfire revolver.

I bought a 992 in December.

I bought it because I wanted a .22LR "DA trainer". (My self-defense handguns are all DA/SA) So the .22 Magnum was kind of a bonus, but 992s were available and 990s weren't.

I have been absolutely delighted with it so far. Given the Dec and Jan weather in OH, and my work schedule, I have not had a chance to take it outdoors and bench shoot it. I HAVE had the chance to shoot it standing freehand at an indoor range and it is more accurate than I am.

I'm so happy with mine that I am starting to think about a Taurus 66. Or 627. Or 608. Or ...

I have not had a chance to shoot it, yet. It's a little cold here in the mountains but I think it will warm up to the 40s by Thursday.

Have you shot it yet?

I just shot it today. The 22 WMR has a small amount of recoil but nothing even close to a 38. The 22 LR has virtually no recoil. I didn't bench rest it for accuracy or sight it in. I was just trying out the action and fired off 50 rounds of federal bulk ammo.

The WMR tended to make the cylinder stick making ejection a bit difficult. I did oil it beforehand so I I don't know what the cause of that was. No problems with the 22 LR ejecting.

I still need to sight it since it's shooting low for me at 25 yards. I hit the plate at 25 yards 7-8/9 rounds. The Hogue Monogrips are great.

I have the 4" stainless model. Purchased it about 2-3 months ago but haven't shot it very much. I only have a couple bricks of 22lr and a couple box's of 22mag so it's sat in the safe most of the time. I like the interchangeable cylinders and it's easy to swap but I noticed from the factory Taurus didn't do a very good job of inspection. There was sand/grit from what I assume was their sandblasting machine in every nook & cranny in the gun. The sight adjustment, trigger, extractor, all of it gritty & gummy. I took it all apart & cleaned with brake cleaner then blew it all out w/compressed air. Put it all back together and shot a couple cylinders full just to check the sights. It shoots pretty good w/CCI Blazer ammo, about a 2" group at 15yds off hand. It's a little heavy for a 22 but feels good in the hand & points good for me. Double action is a little heavy but w/some use and practice it'll probably smooth up some. Single action is great, nice and crisp and consistent, I'd guess about 4-5lbs. All in all I probably wouldn't buy it again but not because it's a Taurus. I have a few single action Rugers & a couple MkII Rugers and the Taurus doesn't do anything better than the Rugers except being a double action. It was an impulse buy because I thought it would be "neat". Reality set in pretty quick, but I'm not sorry I bought it. If the 22 ammo ever gets to this area for a reasonable price I will shoot it more and may warm up to it. Till then I'm going to continue to cast bullets & load for my other 38's & 9mm's, 45's & 44spl.

This was an impulse buy for me, too. The double action is actually quite good, and I prefer the action over a Ruger. Like I said before, I have numerous Performance Center, Pro Series Smith and Wessons, as well as three Pythons.

I've got an older Taurus 94 DA .22LR and I've been pleased with it. Been looking at the Tracker series before I got the 94, and was really thinking about the .17 mag Tracker.
