Not much to say but congrats.

I have both of those rifles and enjoy shooting them. Mine however, are not in NIB condition.

I paid $400 for both .

Do y'all have a favorite deer load for either ? Powder type , cap , ball & patch size ? Do you lube your patch ?

That Sir, is a good deal anywhere you go! Congrats. I haven't put enough serious time in on loads for my rifles so I'll let someone who has advise you on that.:)

For the 50, try Hornady PA Conicals or Buffalo Bullets version.

The are skirted balls or basically a miniball. I shoot them with 75 grains of powder with very good accuracy. Plus, they are $15 a hundred.

Thanks y'all . I wasn't looking for two , but at that price I took both of them in the condition they were in .

Does anyone know what rate of twist that Thompson uses in those models .

I have a soft spot for these and all other T/C traditional smoke poles. I know purists turn their noses up at these, but they are well made and solid shooters.Too bad that T/C abandoned the traditional crowd.

I have an Investarms 54 cal Hawken with a 1:48 twist and have been using R.E.A.L. bullets from a Lee mould that came with the rifle.
With 70 grains of FFG Goex in the chamber I just ram the bullet down on top of the powder with no patch and as advertised I can shoot all day without swabbing the bore.
The accuracy is very good so far @ 50 meters haven't tried it at 100 meters yet and I really need new glasses before attempting it.

I just this morning decided to clean up my old TC Renegade and get ready for muzzle loader deer season that starts next week ! I had to order some .54 cal hornady bullets ,a new measure , nipple wrench , ball starter ! I will pick up some powder and caps locally . I havent shot the old girl since 1979 ! Bore is clean and bright ! I remember my best load was 100 grains ffg under a thompson center Maxiball ! Kevin

TC Hawken load?

My .54 likes 85 grains of FFG under a patched round ball, especially if the patch is lubed with PAM cooking spray. When heading into the deer woods I will prep a few patches with PAM and carry them in a ziplock sandwich bag in my possibles bag.
