Camden teacher faces gun charge
(Camden-AP) January 12, 2007 - A Camden High School teacher has been arrested after deputies found a handgun in his car at school.
Kershaw County Sheriff Steve McCaskill says 27-year-old Scotty Lee Dean was charged Thursday with carrying a gun on school property and presenting a gun.
The sheriff says the math teacher is accused of pulling a gun during a dispute Wednesday with a man in the parking lot of a store.
McCaskill says someone had come by the school and said they thought Dean had a gun in his car.
The sheriff says the man involved in the dispute Wednesday, 39-year-old Edward James Reid of Camden, is charged with disorderly conduct.
School district spokeswoman Mary Anne Byrd says Dean has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the charges are resolved.
