I saw Ted Nugent on PBS this morning. Texas Monthly is a magazine, and they have a regular show on this channel, and I occasionally catch it when I'm flipping through. They generally interview all types of people. I've even seen Hanoi Jane on the show before.

Anyways, I thought I'd post a link to Youtube which contained the portion of the interview dealing with the 2nd Amendment for your viewing pleasure.

Thank you very much.
Ted kicks hiney, no doubt.
Very good 2A spokesperson for us who live in the country.

This has been around for awhile on Youtube, but a good post nonetheless.

I would love to hear any reasoned or logical argument against what he said. I agreed 100% with Uncle Ted.

He may not always say it in the best way, but he does a lot for the 2nd amendment cause. Thumbs up for Ted.

I like listening to Ted Nugent speak. He speaks with great conviction, emotion, and with a down to earth logic that many can relate to. I took a look at a couple other related videos while at YouTube and his views on protecting our borders is also something I can agree with. These people jumping our borders are to be arrested and deported without delay. I'm all for people fleeing to our country because of persecution, war, and what not. Problem is that many come here for a quick buck and then demand rights. I should stop there as I'm ranting and its not on topic.

Getting back on topic. I love Ted's rant on how "numbnuts" tell us how and when we can defend ourselves. Not very "high road" but absolutely and positively correct. I also believe that the Second Amendment should be my concealed weapons permit, and I don't like repeat offenders either.

Keep up the good work Mr. Nugent.

He started out really well. Unfortunately, after a while he kind of started degenerating into bumper sticker slogans.

The first part of his answer shows how it should be done. About where he starts calling people "numbnuts" is where it starts to go down hill. That kind of talk is fine when speaking to the choir, but it tends to turn off the general populace.

Thanks for posting the clip. It shows in three minutes the RIGHT way to conduct yourself in a media interview as well as the WRONG way.

First off, I've seen this and agree with the sentiment.

However, if it were not for his rockstar background, he would be quickly written off for the chest thumping type of delivery. He's a former rockstar, they can live by different rules than the rest of us and get away with it.

ie. Ron Paul has that almost evangelical tone in some of his speeches, but I read of it hurting his credibility as a candidate. Yet people agree with Ted simply because that's what they expect from him. We are lenient in our judgement of Ted and critical of Ron for essentially the same delivery methods.

Albeit, Ted's not running for President, but if he did, I'd vote for him.

Let's look at this draft dodging thing in a slightly different light.

1. VN was a very long time ago. Ted is five years older than I, so first I want to give him the benefit of years when I make these statements.

2. I, being raised in western Ky, and not being one to participate in discussions on current events and politics, would have gone blindly to the army if drafted and like most, done what I was told to do. That was patriotism and this eighteen year old boy understood it. Had I been keeping my ears open, learning what the VN war was really about and identifying and understanding the lies that put us and kept us there, my view would have been different.

3. During that time, Ted was a kid and had not truly begun to form who Ted has become. We are all guilty of poor judgment somewhere along the way. If in fact Ted did befoul himself to avoid the draft, he has more than made up for that in the role that later became his activist life. He is a patriot.
Think of it as someone who was agnostic, or atheist being saved and becoming an evangelist. Life changes people, people then change lives.

4.Lastly, if the story is true, then I see it as he found a way to make himself undesirable, risking acceptance, but being refused. He did not run and hide. He made a stand that basically said, "here I am, this is what I think of your politics, I'll go if you want me but "do you really want me?"" He did not run to Canada and hide. That's not dodging, that's just down right creative. The other popular cop out was claiming to be gay.

Let's just send VN back to the sixtys where it belongs.

I read a bunch of the links that were provided through google on an earlier post. I cannot find one legitimate news source that Ted was a draft dodger.

I am suprised that at my advanced age I had never heard of him being a draft dodger. Makes me wonder how legit the accusation is.

I have to say that I agree with him and I dont really mind him talking like that to people. He asked the question, " Am I weird?" And looks at the audience.

Perfect.

I think it's great he's so vocal. But I think he only appeals to people already in the gun culture. What we need is more people like him that can appeal to a greater majority.

By his own admission, Ted Nugent said he planned to report for his physical in a manner that was calculated to repulse the army. I don't think they ever actually called his number. He's written that it was stupid and disrespectful thing to do, answering questions about it more than once on his own message board. He also has toured for the USO and expressed remorse for the affair.

I think leaving the 60s in the 60s is really the best way to handle it. Many people showed poor judgement in that era. Meanwhile, even if you don't like the way Ted Nugent presents his arguments, what he says will not have any effect on the antis. They won't like us regardless of Ted Nugent, and they were trying to squash the second amendment long before the Nuge ever made public declarations about it.

But he does support our right to keep and bear arms very publicly, as well as our right to hunt, and he does promote a clean and healthy lifestyle. He plays a guitar pretty well, too. [:)]

As far as I know, registration to his board is still free (they threatened to charge $20.00 annually) so if you want to chat up the Nuge, have at it. He posts frequently on the site. I warn you that they are more tolerant of harsh language and thread drift than The High Road.

And please don't bring up the draft thing. It's been asked and answered many times, so threads about it are considered rude.

Fortunately thinking and doing are completely different, otherwise we would all be in a lot of trouble.

By his own admission, Ted Nugent said he planned to report for his physical in a manner that was calculated to repulse the army.

No honey, I didn't notice how inappropriate her outfit was, never saw it.....:scrutiny:

God bless The Nuge! I definatly agree with a lot of you that he doesnt have much appeal with the anti crowd but as ridiculous as he can be I have to admit it does my heart good to hear him in interviews - he never fails to crack me up. And love him or hate him he is one of the most outspoken defenders or the rkba out there. I personally think he presented himself (and the rest of us for that matter) fairly well as opposed to some of his past interviews I have seen.

"Every time they open their mouths I kill 12 of something." - Uncle Ted in response to a reporter asking him how he deals with pressure from PETA

I like listening to Ted Nugent speak. He speaks with great conviction, emotion, and with a down to earth logic that many can relate to.

Gee, such words could be used for Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Baker, David Koresh, and Rosie O'Donnell, and Ross Perot.

While I wouldn't want to take a long car trip with the man, I do believe that Ted Nugent is a great voice for the gun rights community---to empower & embolden us who are already converted to the cause. For those on the fence....not so much.... :uhoh:

Suprisingly, I think the best spokesperson for gun rights might just be R. Lee Ermey. Search YouTube for his interview with Shooting Industry Magazine. He really makes the point in a well-spoken, likeable shooter. Heck, I think he'd make a great heir to Heston for the NRA Spokesman position....with Julie Goloski as the NRA Spokeswoman... :D
