Tell me about IOR 4x24 scopes or other suitable CQB scopes

Thinking of getting one for .223 with the BDC. But my biggest concern is eye relief - it appears that the eye relief is like 3 inches or less.

Any experiences here? I want a high quality scope for my AR in .223, as well as perhaps using it for my 9mm and 45 uppers.

Any other suggestions for a smaller profile magnifying optic similar to this? Or is the IOR the shiznit.

A close-quarters optic for under $400? Only thing decent that fills this bill is an Aimpoint.

IOR Valdad scopes are the very best of the best Dragunov type scopes available.
These optics are most assuredly NOT close quarter Battle optics.
$400 will buy you a Trijicon Reflex II dot optic and this will be a better choice for that purpose.

A 4x optic with BDC is not a close-quarter optic by any stretch of my fevered imagination. The IOR is more of a general-purpose scope, useful for many common rifle tasks.

Aside from the IOR, a high-quality general-purpose scope with BDC for under $400 does not exist. Double your budget, and there are some other options. The Trijicon ACOG TA01 and TA31 are excellent choices. There's also the ELCAN, the U.S. Optics SN-4 and SN-12, and the new SPR scopes from Leupold. All of these are within shouting distance of a kilobuck. Optics are expensive.

If you're absolutely stuck at $400, I'd lose the BDC and buy a Leupold VXII 1-4x with good rings.

you will find that you can have your cake and eat it too. You can have a 4x scope, a reticle that is etched for bullet drop compensation, AND a CQB optic. This is not to mention a well proven optic that is currently in service all over the world in combat operations.
You arn't going to get it for $400, but I stipulated that the link I provided was only for the real deal.

Spend $50, buy an antique, but bulletproof, Weaver K4.

Spend the other $350 on ammo, and practice at various ranges.

It doesn't have a BDC
It would be a poor choice for a CQB optic.

Best 1x red dot for serious use: Aimpoint M2/M3.

If you need to target ID beyond 100 yards or shoot more precisely, you can get a TA11 or TA31 ACOG which will allow body hits to 500-600, but will sacrifice some speed to the 1x dot closer than 50 yards.

I've used both extensively.

Thanks, guys. I alread have a Trijicon Reflex sight, an OKO dot sight, 3 Kobra red dots, and 2 Eotechs. These are all for my standard CQB needs.

However, I was hoping to find something that would allow me to have some magnification if needed.

I actually found an inexpensive set-up that might fit the bill, including the ability to use on a dangerous game rifle.

Weaver 1-3x20 duplex reticle.

The very definition of close quarters battle precludes the requirement of having to judge trajectory. If you're close enough to use a bayonet, all a rangefinder scope is going to do is slow you down.

Spend $50 on a nice fixed power scope, and $350 on ammo for practicing.

Of course, if you just want to be told that you absolutely must have the latest black-painted ubertactical gizmo, fine. Go buy it. Spend all your money on it. Then you'll be too broke to actually shoot anything, but hey, all that stuff is just going to be sitting at your place while you gaze fondly at it...

Bogie, not everyone out here is a benchrest shooter. Some of us have different requirements. Just because you don't understand those requirements, doesn't mean that you need to talk smack.

Most of the 3Gun shooters who shoot optics, choose a scope with moderate magnification and a reticle BDC. There is a reason for this.

The original poster wasn't asking what would make him a better shot. It's his money. He can spend it on an expensive scope if he wants. If you know of something that meets the parameters the original poster laid out, why not just tell him, THEN tack on the advice you felt obligated to provide?

Don't let 'em get you down! Get what you enjoy, this hobby is too broad and life too short to care about much else.

From your post, it sounds like a lot of things you'd find in a 3-gun match would fit the bill nicely. They seem to like optics that will be super fast close up, but then allow for some precision out to those 200-300 yard shots. Sounds like an ideal setup for a general purpose rifle. So basically, you might also try looking at any 3-gun sites/forums to see what they use.

Any of the things I can think of have been mentioned, specifically the TA11/TA31 mentioned already by Zak Smith.
