Old police inventory tends to be beat up outside and near new inside. Cruiser guns get carried lots and shot little. Most are 870s, with a smattering of Mossies and Ithacas.
Call your local shops and ask if they do departmental tradeins. The ones with an LE focus rather than sporting use are most likely to be the right ones.
NO shop has good deals all the time, they'll get in say 30 870s and sell them off with the price rising as the stock on hand diminishes.
Unless you pick out the training shotgun, you'll get a fine shooter for maybe half of what a new one will set you back. If that's trainer's an 870, it'll do fine also.
