The best course of action for quick repairs is to keep spare assemblies. Since all 870's have the same parts (some different in the 3.5" Supermag) this allows you to get you gun back in action in a matter of minutes. It also allows you to trouble shoot. If you are having an issue and you think the trigger plate assembly is the issue, you simply throw the spare in and if the issue goes away you have a working gun and time to check out the trigger plate assembly and repair it.
This can be done by picking up used assemblies when you see them at a good price. Get a Trigger plate assembly, Breach Bolt assembly and forend tube assembly. Have a wave washer on hand incase the barrel detent plunger malfunctions as they work well and will retain your magazine cap or mag tube coupling if using a tube extension.
Or pick up a good used 870, pre-check and the parts and keep the gun for back up parts.l
