Gents,

I am thinking about getting my first revolver and the Trackers look interesting. They are priced right and I handled one at a show recently with satisfaction regarding the grip, sights, etc. I know I don't want a 38 or 357. I don't own a 44 so that has some appeal, but I shoot quite a bit of 45 ACP so the ammo compatability sounds appealing. I also like the idea of using clips. Then there is 45Colt for nostalgia. Which of these calibers sounds the best in that platform for general shooting fun?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I'd go with the 45ACP unless you like the idea of reloading another caliber or buying rather expensive 45LC ammo.

Unless you plan to hunt with it, I'd go with 45ACP otherwise 44 magnum over 45 LC since I don't think you could use the Tracker in "cowboy" matches.

I own a Taurus Tracker in 45acp. It's great. The double action pull was heavy but smooth(like every other revolver built today) and the single action pull breaks like glass. My gunsmith took care of the heavy trigger pull for 10 bucks or so.

I have a 45 ACP Tracker with a 4" barrel. Very accurate, seems well made, good SA trigger and the DA, while heavy, improves with use. The trigger seems designed more for SA shooting than DA shooting. The often criticized barrel holes for recoil reduction do not cause blindness in reduced light conditions. The flash from the barrel-cylinder gap is more pronounced than the flash from the muzzle brake. The full-moon clips supplied with the gun work well and are easier to use than S&W clips. Recoil is well controlled with the "Ribber" grip and muzzle brake. Only criticisim is the Tracker's inability to use auto-rim cartridges, but that was a corporate decision by Taurus based on difficulty in obtaining factory 45 auto-rim (it's really a handloading only cartridge). It's not a Smith 625 IMHO, but it is smaller and lighter and I recommend it highly.

Thanks guys! I am still contemplating whether to get a revolver or not, but if I do I think it will be the Tracker in 45ACP. CDNN has some pretty nice deals on those right now.

To date, I am not aware of a 44 Special Tracker, but I have the 45 ACP and have had the 45 Colt. Ammo cost and variety as mentioned above moved me to the ACP over the Colt. Both are great guns, and I am looking forward to the July release of the 44 Mag Tracker. I also have the 357, and have had the 41. All are awesome for the money.
