I notice them every now and then. I saw one today, a Sako TRG-S, for a fair price.

I'm in 6 calibers :what: now, I'm not certain I "need" :D to get into another.

Basically be a deer rifle if I do, and prob end up reloading for it at some point.

Would like to hear real info, pros and cons.

Thanks.

its flat shooting, not too much recoil, & if you reload you can use 270 & 30-06 brass to start with.price wise its about the same as 270-06 too. great round,my uncle has been using one for 40 years....

it is what I went to buy I was going to get the browningXbolt till I found My Remington CDL_SF in the 257 Weatherby I had always wanted a 257 so I went with it

I have a No.1 Ruger in 25-06 and love it. I load 100 grain hollow points that shoot dime sized three shot groups at 100 yards. I have only killed a couple deer with it but it works fine.

I have an X-Bolt in 25-06, and it's a fine and accurate shooter. I've never hunted with it, but it was the go-to deer gun for my boss for 30+ years. He claims it never failed to drop his prey. A 115gr. Nosler partition should do the job every time, IMO.

Still wringing out the Howa 1500 25-06 I got here, haven't had enough time to find out what it really likes, but recoil is quite light, good shooter. Easy to reload for, too.

Might be a bit hard on barrels for prairie dog hunting, but that won't be an issue for deer hunting.

While it's possible to reform 270 or 30-06 brass, I wouldn't bother since 25-06 brass is easily available.

Browning A-Bolt 25/06 here. Killed many many deer ..one shot drops on all but one ... that was my fault. Mine has a 22" barrel and I can get 3000 fps plus with all the .25 hunting bullets I reload, it shots all brands well but loves the Hornady 120 gr. HP . It will also shoot 115 gr. Noslers BT almost as well. Some folks like the 100grs. bullets, but I find that they mess up too much meat and kill no better than the 115 to 120 gr. ones. Topped with and old Leopold VIII 3.5 x 10 AO, it will do its job if I do mine! I got mine because it was the largest cal. legal at the time for small game in GA. Wild hogs were considered small game back then!

You won't hear any legitimate cons unless someone wants to state that it doesn't have the umpf needed for African game.

I bought a Ruger M77 in .25-06 for coyotes/deer/elk. Yep, elk. We'll try it out this fall during elk season. Reload for it, and that should make it drive tacks.

Here's a Cooper M22 in 25-06 that does ok with a handloaded 120 gr Sierra and R-25. It does a tad over 3100fps out of the 24" barrel.

It wont shoot "1/2"moa all day long" as you can tell by the top right group.

I have a savage model 111 in 25-06 and I have used it to take several deer and coyotes. The gun is so freakishly accurate that its kinda too easy.

Looked at it again this afternoon. Worked the action- smooooth as butter. Found out it was new and unfired, with box, last made in this caliber in 1998.

Thanks for all the info.

I'm picking it up on Saturday. :D ;)

I've an older 700 "Sendero" in .25-06. Worked on the trigger, everything else is stock. 4X14.5 (?) Leupold glass.
It'll shoot 1.75" groups @ 300 yds. pretty regular (100 gr. Nosler BT, RL19, Fed 210M).
It's an outstanding Whitetail/Coyote rifle. I consider it a "fixed position" rifle; to heavy to lug around/"still hunt" with.

I had a Weathery Vanguard VGX in .25-06 many moons ago. It was a dream to shoot! At the time, I was far more acustomed to shooting my .300 Wea Mag, and .338 Win Mag and so I errantly preceived it to be too much of a light-weight.

The .25-06 (with proper ammo) will take any North American game. The quarter-bore was one of Ed Weatherby's favorite, and he even harvested cape buff with it (in a .257 Wea. Mag). My point is, they use the same projectile.

I personally would not use it on bears, but anything else, I wouldn't hesitate. I'm thinking 100 grain Barnes X-bullet.

Been shooting 25-06s since 1978. Don't ever figure to be without at least one, which is why I still have two: A M77 tang safety sporter and one on a M98 action w/Douglass SS barrel, .750 at the muzzle. Once had three of 'em, still kicking myself for selling the M700ADL walnut to a friend's son that nagged me near to death over it.

100gr Nosler Btips work well enough for me, over 54grs of IMR 4831 and have for many years. Put one in a deer's heart/lungs and they generally fall over dead, even out past 400yds.

My .25-06 Remington 700ADL with 3x9 Bushnell has been my main deer rifle since '82 and never fails to please. It's plain Jane, but shoots phenominally. I also like 100gr. Nosler Btips over IMR 4831 or Reloader 19. Want to try RL22 and maybe some Sierra SPBT bullets, or some Nosler 110 gr. Accubonds.

win classic super grade with a leupold vx 3 4.5-14AO. it was a gift from my shooting mentor.

I shot all manner of factory ammo. for some reason it LOVES the winchester silver box power point 120 grn.

keeping all the brass. one day ill get into reloading and really dial in some loads. hope to antelope hunt in WY with it someday, but for now it will do fine on coyotes and deer.

I personally unloaded it as a caliber, since it's kinda of a 'tweener caliber, which means it's the perfect caliber for the man or woman with just one smallbore centerfire rifle. But if you already have quite a few other calibers, you've got the bases covered most likely and .25-06 is superfluous.

It's a good long-range target shooting caliber, due to the velocity/BC combo you get.

It wont shoot "1/2"moa all day long"

Yeah, dubble, those groups really suck. It only does that from sunup til about 5:45 pm, right? :)

If you get a rifle in this caliber, I'd recommend a 9 twist, not 10, so that you shoot really long bullets well (120s and up, Berger, TSX/MRX)

Dr. Tad, the rifle is a 1:10 twist. Most of what I've seen has been 1:10. I figure more research might find a 1:9, or a custom barrel.

I do have a few other small caliber rifles though. .257's and a 6.5X55. Then a jump to the 30 caliber size.

I'll post pics of it tomorrow. I may have enough parts on hand to scope it as well, I'll have to look through my assorted misc items. :D
