Tell me about the Browning Hi Power please

I have a Mark III Hi-Power, El Capitan in 9mm.
Bought it about 4 years ago.
Made in Belgium. Assembled in Portugal. I don't have a problem with that.
Magnificent pistol.
The sights, while adjustable out to 500 meters, are designed so that you must cover the target with the front sight to hit it at the designated range.
This makes hitting on even man-sized targets very difficult.
I prefer the 6 o'clock hold, where your front sight hovers just below the target, so you can see your target at all times and keep the front sight aligned.
However, I learned early on that if I set my El Capitan rear sight to 200, it's a near-perfect 6 o'clock hold with 115 gr. bullets at a bullseye at 25 yards.
With the rear sight set at 200, bullets strike about 4 inches above the front sight at 25 yards.
This makes a good combat sight setting, as I've always used a 6 o'clock hold for pistol shooting. In the stress of a gunfight, I would undoubtedly -- without thinking -- align the sights in a 6 o'clock hold.
In the stress of a gunfight, you do what you are trained to do and most of the time don't even think about it.
Anyway, the Hi-Power is magnificent.
The El Capitan has been dropped from production. I'm glad I got mine when I did.
Slim, accurate, utterly reliable (at least in the Mark III version), fits the hand perfectly and points like a finger.
Just a wonderful pistol. I can't praise it enough.

yea those tangent rear site models are awesome, glad i got mine.
Add some nice custom Novak wood grips and those argentine 16 round mags and you got yourself a real nice contender.

I'm no expert, but I have two things to say (and post some hi-power porn).

1 - I love the hi-power; It's an awesome 9mm, very accurate, pointable, and mine's been reliable for more than 2000 rounds now.

2 - It was my first handgun, a gift to me from my dad when I was 18 and moved out of the house.

Regarding the Hi-Power

Beautiful pictures, guys!!
Your hi-powers are much newer than mine. I purchased mine used in 1975. Since then I've poured more than 20,000 rounds through it with no problems at all. EXTREMELY ACCURATE!! with any bullet configuration. I couldn't ask for a more accurate or reliable 9mm.
I have installed a Cylinder and Slide extended slide stop/safety and purchased a set of Meprolite tritium nite sights and installed the rear sight (the original was fully adjustable but my ex-wife dropped it in 1980 and bent it. It was still dead on so I didn't mess with it. The screw fell out of it in late 2008 and I decided on the nite sites.) When I went to install the front sight I realized that the it was not dove-tailed in. Big Problem!! :cuss: I haven't figured out if the front sight is machined as part of the slide or is removable as, under the sight from the slide side there is a very small hole. I have yet to find a hex wrench or anything else that fits it. ANY IDEAS ?????????
As an afterthought: Does anybody know anything, bad or good, about the Taurus 24/7 OSS DS in .45ACP??
