I was at a local gunstore today and he had three Browning HP's. One was Blue with a really smooth blue finish 589.00, another was two-tone 699.00 and a third which was a MK III for 499.00 dollars. All of them came with fixed sights and 2-10 round magazines.

Why the variance in price?

I have never owned or fired a HP and am curious.

Choices, choices.

The bright blue-with-wooden-stocks "standard model" is a thing of beauty. Some people really like the silver-and-blue tu-tone, and there is some thought that it resists rust a little better.

If you're considering purchase of a working pistol, with some military flavor, I think the Mark III is the best deal. Plus, it comes with a very sturdy finish. I personally don't care for the thumb rest plastic stocks, unless they are modified. A couple of the military parts dealers offer the plain black Canadian service stocks, and they fit right in with the overall image of the Mk III. And, certainly, there are a lot of really nice aftermarket wooden panels for sale.

The P35 High Power is a superb pistol, and the Mk III is serviceable right out of the box. Good sights, acceptable trigger pull which may easily be improved.

In my part of the country, $500 is a good price.

Best of luck,
Johnny

Three finishs

Three different finishs. The Mk III has a matt finish if I remember correctly. Next, new or used?

If used, prices sound a bit high for Indiana. :)

If not for CZ, I'd carry a HP.
The fact that Hakan now offers HP grips is also a big attraction to the classic NINE.

The Browning High Power is considered by many to be the most elegant of all double stackers...for nearly 70 years used by more nations for military & law enforcement than any other. Available in 40S&W and 9mm. Super carry gun!

Makes a great .22 hi-cap (14+1) by addding the Ciener conversion kit

$499 is a great price, at least in my neck of the woods. However, you can get better -- CDNN has FN Hi Powers (they're exactly the same, just marked FN) for $429.

Don't mean to highjack this thread but what sights do you have on the Browning HP in the top picture? I like the looks of that rear sight. Thanks! :)

$499.00 is a great price for a new MKIII. The pricing on the Standard is about $15.00 less than I can buy one for. The Practical (two tone) is way too high at $699.00.
