Tell me about the Ruger gp100

Good guns. Durable. Check it over as you would any gun before buying. Looked at a SP101 the other day that had a severely canted barrel. Way overtightened. They do slip through, but GP's are generally good working guns.

Since we're still going, I shot my GP100 today with some .357 handloads (158 Rainier plated FP/5.5 Unique) and got my best groups of the year so far, about 2-1/2" for 6 at 22 yards.
Just for fun I'm buying the new Weigand no gunsmith picatinny rail so I can mount my Fastfire III red dot on it. I want to see what it will do at 100 yards with my handloads without my progressive lenses getting in the way.

Then I'm toying with the idea of putting back up iron sights on the rail in front and behind the Fastfire. That would make for one ugly gun though.

Pic of the 3-inch. Love the GPs.

Let's see if you'll dab a bright color nail polish on the front sight too. I found myself compelled to do it after some shooting.

Umm...no. Buy a Hi-Viz sight for $40 at Midway/Brownells/LGS. They do offer colored inserts for around $15. Better yet, buy night sights for it.

Swap the stocks if you do not like them. Badger Grips makes them, as do several other manufacturers.

What I meant was, with rugers you have a Tang that slides into the grip, then you screw it into place. If you grab the frame and grab the grip you can shake the frame away from the rear back of the grip. The S&W's and others have a steel frame with 2 separate grips that screw onto the skeleton of the frame. I showed this to the guys at Shoot straight and they were surprised at the amount of play there.
I just never cared for that unless you buy the adapter that allows you to screw the grip in from the bottom of the grip instead of the side. It is more stable.
They sell a kit for that and either a Hogue or Pac, that screws in from the bottom rather than the side.
Here is an old post that refers to the grip, http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-685421.html

My GP100 wears the compact Lett grip with wood insert, but came with the current OEM Hogue grip.
Neither grip can be moved at all when installed properly.
