While looking for a small semi auto for carry I stumbled upon a GP100 357mag half lug stainless 4 inch barrel /fixed sights w/Hogue finger groove stock but original compact Letts style grips included. I've got 4.2 and a 5 inch full lugged GPs but always thought a half lug GP would be an improvement. There don't seem to be many out there for sale so it's hard to judge the value. It's listed for $500. Anyone have any experience or information about this gun?

No it's not a MC. I found out it's a KGPF-340 and were manufactured as late as 2012-2013 at least. I'll have to check out this particular gun's serial number to see actual manufacture date. So they're not rare, just a little unusual now.

$500 is about average for GP100's in good/LNIB condition. However I'd try to get the price down some if your interested because new GP100's can be found online starting at $550. Of course buying online will require shipping and FFL fees so those costs also need to be considered.

That's my plan today. The thing that interests me about this gun is the half lug(3 oz. lighter than full lug) maybe better balanced and fixed sights which I can't get in a new GP100. If it's in good shape I may go for it. wronghanded, Yes, now you went and did it. I'm going to the LGS to check it out.

That’s about right here too, I just sold a regular GP100 for $475

If that’s what you’re looking for I say try and get it cheaper, but get it

If LNIB, I wouldn't have a problem paying $500, but would likely offer $450 to start.

I spotted this GP while looking for a carry gun and got sidetracked. This would leave me still needing a concealable gun so...I see a LNIB SP101 2.25" .357 mag stainless, DAO,w/nice wood grips as well as stock grip that's got 20-30 rounds through it for $450. The owner said it was his first revolver and it's not the gun for him. He may have shot some .357mags and decided it was no fun. Face to face local deal so no extra on line/FFL fees either. I had been considering snubs and semis but most of the light small framed snubs are pretty brutal recoiling guns but I think the SP101 at 25-26 oz. would be doable especially with 38+P and still be OK for carry weight. I think the SP would be more practical at this point rather than a third GP.

This might help put it in perspective.

That's unloaded.

The SP101 is very shootable with magnum loads but not what I'd call fun. 38's are fun however. It was my first handgun and I still keep it around for trail work.

Man, I like that half-lug barrel on those GP's!

IMHO the full lugs look good on the Python/S&W 586-686/Dan Wessons, but the full lug GP's just don't do it for me. (I have the full lug GP in .44 Spl and an SP 101 that also has the full lug 2".) I wish the GP had a half-lug, but they didn't catalog the 5" until well after I bought it.

Nice guns!

Stay safe.
