Tell me about the Ruger gp100

When i read the original post I was under the impression that this was supposed to be a 4" (4.2) barrel. But this on the video definitely looks like 6".

timing looks quite alright to me. now you need to shoot and report back as to how you like it. a fine deal indeed.

Bought the 3 inch barrel version for "all around revolver."

I am satisfied with the decision.

Only problem I have is that I have a distaste for the Hogue grip Ruger now ships with it.

Let's see if you'll dab a bright color nail polish on the front sight too. I found myself compelled to do it after some shooting.

I never liked the way the "stock" grip is screwed into the frame, there is too much play in there on every one I have picked up. If you hold onto the frame and push pull the grip, there is a good 1/4 inch of wiggle room. It can be fixed by adding the part that allows the grip to screw into the base of the grip, that is my only complaint.

I was fortunate enough to buy my first handgun in 1997...a new 6" stainless GP-100 with the full shroud for a whopping $369 plus tax.

It is built like a tank and then some. It will never be sold (heck, I suspect I could sell it for more than I paid 17 years ago). If you want a bulletproof .357 revolver, I think the GP-100 is the ticket.

has anyone had problems with the cylinder play? I imagine it would loosen up if you shoot alot, but then again i dont know much about revolvers

The Ruger GP100 is a solid dependable revolver that will stand the test of time and still hold it's value.

I have a 5" GP100 that I think is a great revolver and fun to shoot.

Mine went back to Ruger for deeper chambers. I think they also standardized the throats too, because it seems flawless now.

5" barrel. Grips are by Eagle (took a number of months to get). Holster is crossdraw by Simply Rugged:

Gym, if your grips have that much play (any at all) then there is something seriously wrong with the grips or the way they are secured to the frame, not the gun. I have been shooting GP and SPs since they were first introduced and changed grips on them numerous times and never felt any "wiggle".

You remove the panels & locator pin & slide the rubber off.
