I'm considering getting a 10mm autoloader, and there aren't many offerings in 10mm (Glock 20, Glock 29, 1911, EAA Witness). For CCW, the Glock 29 is very appealing power/size ratio, especially if in the woods where one is likely to encounter wild animals.

How bad is the recoil on the Glock 29? How about the Glock 20? The grip on the 20 seems pretty large. What else can you tell me about these two guns?

Any other suggestions for a 10mm?

I have two other-than-Glock 10mm pistols, a Dan Wesson Razorback and a Kimber Stainless Target II and love them both. Quite a bit more pricey than the Glock, though...I could probably have snagged TWO G20s for what my Kimber cost. It all depends on your preferred platform. For me it's the 1911, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at a Glock 20 by any means. I'll probably end up getting one before it's all said and done.

I would go for the model 30 due to the price of .45 ammo compared to 10mm.

I've shot the 30 a good amount and had no problems with it.

While I do not own a 29 (just a 17 so far for me) my best friend and shooting buddy does.

I have about 300 or so rounds of 10 through his. My observation is that it is NOT unpleasant to shoot, to me it feels like a .40 S&W with a quick tight snap with the muzzle jumping straight up and back, rotating my wrist back towards my chin.

It is entirely manageable but quick and sharp. Though I don't think I'd shoot it for hundreds and hundreds of rounds on a weekend range trip, a box or two for practice would not be an issue.

Hope it helps.

They're Both Great Guns!

I've got a G21 which I've converted to 10 mm.

A friend of mine has a First Gen G20, which he uses as a hunting back up.

The 10 mm cartridge is the most versatile auto loader cartridge going. In its common form, it's comparable to .40 S&W over a broad range of loadings.

But loaded to its potential, it's an excellent hunting cartridge, exceeding .40 S&W and .45 ACP cartridges, moving easily into the .357 magnum performance range.

Here's a rundown of some of the .357 magnum and 10 mm Double Tap ammos:

1) .357 Magnum, 1600 fps, 710 ft. lbs., 125 gr Gold Dot

2) 10 mm, 1600 fps, 767 ft. lbs., 135 gr Nosler

3) .357 Magnum, 1400 fps, 688 ft. lbs., 158 gr Gold Dot

4) 10mm, 1475 fps, 750 ft. lbs, 155 gr Gold Dot

5) .357 Magnum, 1200 fps, 640 ft. lbs., 200 gr Hardcast

6) 10mm, 1300 fps, 750 ft. lbs., 200 gr Hardcast

Then there's the whole sixteen/eleven shots thingy! :what:

10 mm is, in its extremes, loud, harsh, flat shooting and controllable power!

That 135 gr Nosler has to be one bad boy of a SD cartridge!

It is the only thing I shoot that people routinely ask me, "What the hell are you shooting?" I'm serious. It happens.

You expect such muzzle blast from a big caliber wheel gun, but not a black tactical pistol!

Get the right ammo!

The G30 recommended by Gunner is one sweet shooter--I've rented one twice! It is likewise convertible to 10 mm...
