Springfield XDs. I wanna know the good, the bad, and the ugly.
I really want the XD to be my first gun. I've looked all over the interweb and find the good stuff but not much bad. So I wanna hear it from those who own or owned an XD. If you owned an XD why did you part ways with it?

Thanks,
Aaron

Xd-45 Tactical, first rate for a double stack tupperware gun. If you are going to buy tupperware I'd choose an XD, oh wait, I did!

I really like the new addition with the manual safety as well. I have NEVER had a failure of any kind period!

I chose it for high cap and durability, a side bonus it is accurate as all get out. If I drop it, scratch it etc. it really doesn't bother me. It's a work horse. When I need slim n pretty I carry one of my 1911's.

This is the ONLY tupperware gun that I have purchased and the only one that I will for some time to come. I'm an all steel and preferably stainless guy myself.

That being said no negatives whatsoever, pick one up soon!

I've got an SD9SC, XD9, and XD45. They've all been great, and haven't had any FTFs or FTEs. I can't imagine wanting a thumb safety on any of them, I mean how friggin many safeties do you need on one gun?

4 XDs.

.40 - Tactical, Service and Sub Compact.
.45 - Compact.

The .40 sub compact gets carried regularly and is my favorite overall. Once I choose a SD round for the 45 that may change. The 40s are a lot snappier than the 45 and the trigger is a lot smoother on the 45. I shoot the tactical less than any of the others, just personal preference I guess.

The only problem I have had of any kind was a feed problem with the tactical. I reload with Rainier bullets, and the FP bullets would not feed well at all. I switched to RNFP and never had another problem. I have probably put over 7000 rounds through all 4, and most of that reloads. No complaints with performance of any of them.

WOW! You guys rock my socks. I've been looking at the XD 9MMSC. I'm having a hard time finding them for what I feel is a decent price. Locally here in Michigan I find them for $500 -$600. I've found them online @ Buds gun shop for less then $500. Any suggestions?

I've owned 4 XDs. An XD-9 SubCompact, an XD-45 Tactical (.45gap), an XD-357 Service, and an XD-9 Tactical.

I kept the XD-357-Service and the XD-9 Tactical, and have modified the XD-9 a bit (trigger-job, magwell, etc...). They were all phenominal shooters, and I really wish that I had kept the XD-9 SubCompact.

I've put over 12K rd through them, combined, and have yet to experience a failure of any kind, and I carry the XD-357 Service daily.

I have yet to find a different make which suits me as well as the XD series, and I've owned many different pistols over the last 6 years.

I don't own an XD but a friend of mine that I shoot with has two so I have a decent amount of experience with them. Things I have noticed are that the gun feels really nice in my hand and it points very well. It has a nice trigger and is easy to field strip. I find it to be pretty easy to shoot. It has good capacity and is concealable. Not much I can say about it that is bad. The XD is definitely on my "to buy" list.

I owned an XD 40 service, and it was a decent gun. I didn't care for the caliber, so I sold it to an aquaintance. He loves it. Just before I sold it to him, though, the trigger spring broke as I was using up the last of the ammo I had for it.:banghead: It cost me an extra $25 to my gunsmith, but I have no problem recommending them to anyone. I have since bought a Glock 17 and love it.:D

...It cost me an extra $25 to my gunsmith...

You know the XD has a Lifetime warranty be it new or used, and I believe Springfield even pays for/reimburses the shipping.

4" (all black) service model here- the first too land in Saban Nation, bought NIB
in late December of '05. .45 ACP caliber, with added Tru-Glo TFO's for aging
eyes. Has performed remarkably well, without the first malfunction of any kind.
Shoots my handloads or all major brands of factory ammo to POA consistently.
Only large caliber polymer pistol that I currently own; as three Glocks and one
H&K USP have come and gone~! :uhoh: ;) Carried in an open-top, strong side [all
leather], belt slide type holster from KC* Custom Leather of Springville, Alabama.

I have a XD45 Service & a XD45 Tactical with around 8000 rounds through it. Great pistols & no probles with either of them. My buddy has a XD 9 Tactical & it works good too.

I've got one of the 4" barrel 45s, the biggest drawback with mine is that it only likes 230 grain round nose loads. I haven't tried it with hollow points, but it won't feed and SWC loads. They dive down into the mag and jamb things up good. I have found a couple of other shooters at my range that report the same problem.
Other than that I am satisfied with the gun. I bought an S&W M&P .45 at about the same time and it feeds anything, so it gets a bit more range time that the XD.

welcome to thr, what can i say about the xd's? i own two and i love em. xd service .40 and a .40 sc. one is my hd and the other is my daily ccw. they are in my opioin the best ploymer striker fired handguns on the market, and there is nothing else out there that i trust my and my families lives too. they are reliable, accurate, and they are backed by a great custimer service from a great company. they will serve you well for a long time. there are more and more aftermarket parts that becomming avaliable out there for the pistols, holsters etc, mags ar cheap and very dependable. i have 11 ad have never had an issue with any of em. also there are more and more replacement parts avaliable as well, for the internal workings of the xd. there are several people that do cusom work on the xd line as well. robar, springer precision, sa custom shop, bowie tactical concepts to name a few.

the only problem that you might have is if you want to change the factory 3 dot sights. the front sight is a pain to get off, and something that i let a gun smith do. i am sure i could do it, but they are my pride and joy guns so i let good eperienced hands do that type of work.

you wil be well served with an xd of any type you should even buy 2!

In my area all the various models are available for somewhere between $400 and $500 depending on the model. I'm not sure why the prices would be that much higher in Michigan, but if you can find an FFL that will order one for you I can give you some links to check out. By the time you pay the FFL transfer and shipping, it may not save much.

Since you've searched the Web you've probably already been to these two sites, but just in case . . .

Yeah, I know. But this "aquaintance" wanted the gun bad, and if I had sent it away, he would of b****ed and moaned and prolly tried to jerk me down on price, so I just had my gs do it. Took less then a week to get it done.

I currently have a XD-40 Tactical and an XD-40 sub compact. I had an SA-2000 I bought new and wore it out; that was the original Croatian import. Great service through SA, as they gave me full credit for an XD once I wore out the SA-2000.

My only issue is the trigger, but that will ease up after 500 rds or so. The trigger seems to have a "break-in" period on it before it evens up.

I had a XD9 service and it wasnt bad but I still sold it and dont really regret getting rid of it. Two or three of my friends have the XD45 Tactical and I liked that much better than mine.

I've just recently bought an XD service model in 357 sig and love it. Its not given me any problems yet, though I've only fired 150 rounds through it. The gun is very ergonomic, as well as easy to point since it has the same grip angle as a 1911. The recoil for 357 is a bit snappy but it comes back to zero very quickly. Oh, and its very very accurate. Quite a steal for under $500.

Just to add: I've also run a dozen of so of my first ever 357 sig handloads through it and it cycled and shot them just fine. The fully supported chamber is also a big plus that it has over the glocks, so I'm not as worried about having a Kaboom with reloads.

I just joined XDTalk lastnight. As for what XD I'm looking for, it's the 9mmSC
in all black or the od green. I found an all black one but the place wants $550 for it. I don't object to spending that for it but like I previously posted Buds online shop has the same gun for $466 shipped.

I have a XD9SC. It's run flawless and is great if you like a more American grip angle like a 1911, as opposed to a Glock. The only problem mine has is the light rusting (very light, can only see a reddish hue in the right light) of the slide which was a common problem on the early models before they changed the slide coating material. Springfield will recoat it with the good stuff for free if you send it to them.
If you want to buy it local, find out how much the shop charges for a FFL transfer, add that to bud's price and ask them if they'll match what that comes to (or will make up for it by throwing in extra mags, night sights, etc).

Double,
thats a really good idea. I'm not financially at the point yet where I'm comfortable walking in and offering that. But I should have my tax returns by the end of the month and we all know that money talks.
