Um... Robert Mueller, the FBI director was not there before GWBush took office. In fact, he was not there until well after Bush took office. Louis Freeh was still at the FBI when GWBush took office.
I think you might have meant Norman Mineta, the Transportation Secretary who is against arming of pilots and copilots.
One of the duties of high-level political appointees is to take the heat for the President if the political circumstances dictate it. That might be what is happening here.
I still think he should have been fired. His press conference on September 11, 2001 was instructive in that the first words out of his mouth was the FBI would not tolerate any discrimination against minorities. This while the WTC was still smoking. We had just suffered the worst wartime attack since Pearl Harbor and the first words out of his mouth warned against discrimination against minorities. Shows his mindset. He still should have been fired if for no other reason than that performance.
Minetta? I still wonder if Minetta has 8 X 10 glosssies of Bush somewhere.
It is hard for the CIA to do their job when every admin from Carter to Clinton has stripped them of their field guys that would actually go out in the real world and get the intel as opposed to just looking at sat photos or listening to commo intercepts... When we refuse to let our spies work and tell them that they are unwanted for decades, we end up with a spy agency that can't spy too well. Thank God Bush is correcting that, but it will take Decades to rebuild what has been lost. After all, you can't send a white guy from Mississippi to the middle east and expect him to blend...

You better believe it.
History is replete with this kind of crap.
I think it's written in the contract before they take the job!

I can't believe the absurd restrictions they have on recruiting human intelligence from BG groups. A classic example of people imposing stupid rules because they don't need to get it right the first time.
In Israel, there are estimates that about a fifth of all the terror groups are on the payroll of the Mossad and the Shin Bet. How do you think the IDF is able to keep nailing their top brass?
I'm not a fan of the CIA in general because they've done some very stupid things, but we shouldn't tie their hands. As long as there's some oversight to prevent real CF's, they should be able to do what they have to do.
FBI agent is powerless to sieze a laptop from one of the 9/11 terrorists before 9/11.
CIA operatives are recalled and prosecuted for trying to assinate figures like Sadam and Osama bin smokinsomethang.
Yes he should have been gone long ago. I think every LEO, Intel and FBI director and upper management should have joined Clinton in leaving Washington.
But why expect something simple and sensible. Ted is still reelected from Mass.
I need some pain meds. this threads hurts it's so wrong.
Tenet is the fall guy for the administration, the intelligence community, AND CONGRESS.
Congress has just as much responsibility for this charlie foxtrot that passes for intelligence as those who deliver it.
When all the reports are issued I will be looking intently for an analysis and condemnation of congressional actions as it pertains to our intel failures.
Being the realist I am, at the worst congress will get a slap on the wrist, not the 2 X 4 upside the haid it deserves.
Congress isn't to blame because, generally, no one holds their collective feet to the fire. It's hard to blame anyone or anything of something when no one really gives a damn.
