well at least it doesn't include full home addresses, like the VA CHL list the Roanoke Fish Wrapper posted in March.

No, but it's not hard to crossmatch via the phonebook. And given crooks tend to know their victims, they can now negate any advantage the victim might have otherwise had.

For those that wish to contact this group, I found the following on their website.

Letters will be edited. Preference will be given to letters of less than 250 words. To be considered for publication, letters must include the writer's name, street address and daytime telephone number. Only the name, hometown and ZIP code will be published. Letter writers who would like their e-mail addresses published should include that address with the letter.
Letters may be submitted via this form. They also may be mailed to Letters to the Editor, The Tennessean, 1100 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203. They may be e-mailed to [email protected] or faxed to 615-259-8093.

Or post here maybe...

If your letter gets published you just made it easy for someone to search the database.

They can have Country "Music Star Lookup Tours" for the Nashville elite that have concealed weapons permits... Sort of like the Beverly Hills tour bus excursions... What happened to the privacy act?

The Tennessean complied this list into a database and put it on the web. It shows their intent IMO..This shouldn't be public information......

Don't know if we made our point or not but this is what I get now:

The requested document was not found on this server.

Web Server at data.tennessean.com

Just checked the article that linked to this database and the link has been removed

My wife tells me that the database has now been disabled.

She had called earlier to tell me about the thing to begin with, and just called back to say that it was down.

She ( and quite a few of the people in her office ) has been pretty P.O.'d at the Tennessean for a while now, for publishing all the State Employee's position and salary information, here a while back.

Now, she's pretty much livid.

I honestly don't see the paper's logic here; first, aggravate a large portion of the state's work force.... then, anger a fairly large number of armed citizens.

Not very bright, any which way you wanna look at it.

A quick 2 second check by me earlier today revealed a security hole in their little app so wide you could drive a Peterbilt through it.

That might have been why they took it down.

I'll poke at it later tonight when I'm at home I think.

This and every other newspaper in every state that tries it should be informed that they will be the target of a class-action lawsuit representing every permit holder in the state whose house was burglarized subsequent to the publishing of the names of permit holders.

I called the paper earlier this morning and was told by a poor go between lady who is obviously a low level employee, that I was the first person she spoke to that was not screaming at her.

As a result, we had a very nice conversation where I was able to tell her of the ramifications and problems such an act could cause honest gun owners.

She told me she would have the editor call me back and the editor actually did call but it went to voice mail. She (the editor) said the link was removed.

I called her back and thanked her for doing that and also stated there were a few thousand other permit holders that thanked her also.

I feel I took the high road on this one and it helped get results. I can't discount the hammering the paper got either.

My first comment to to my co-workers was we should "publish" in any way possible , names , addresses, cell numbers of the editor, his chiefs of staff, and the so called reporter. And be very public about why.

Be nice to get a list of Tennessean employees and re check their names against the real list...to see if any employees were deliberatly "omitted" from the web site.

Mark.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with making the information on State employees public. The State governments, just like the Federal government, are so corrupt. I give the example of our school board, which does not fire employees. Instead, they are shifted around to an 'administrative' position where they continue to collect their salary. And our previous two superintendents are STILL on the payroll, at $100K+ per year.

Good job, Mousegun! That's the way to handle it.

Just spoke to Shelia Wissner on the phone for about 20 minutes. Offered access to a carry permit course, if she would be interested. She gave me the courtesy of her attention and took notes on all the practical and ethical reasons for wearing a sidearm. Also noted that all those not on the list were endagered by the enumeration of the permit holders. I hope to hear from her in the future.

How long before the writer's home address and mugshot as public info, as happened in the VA case?
Well, how big of a lens do you have? :D

But seriously, good on you for getting her attention in a positive manner; who knows, even if she doesn't come around, you might at least get some balanced press out of it.

Now, on another point:

As their employer, I'd rather like to see this....
