I gave it 6 more strokes of wet brush, let it sit for four hours and dry patched:

All copper and carbon gone other than a couple of areas w/light pitting. Bear in mind this is a hunting rifle w/factory barrel. A good target barrel would have cleaned up a lot quicker. Next time I will probably start with the 10 strokes/soak overnight and see what we get; that may be sufficient and we can see if there is anything to the "beneficial fouling" theory.

How's the Browning shooting for you. I remember my dad doing some hot lapping with compound brought back some nasty barrels that were not shooting good.

Haven't had a chance to get to 100 yd. range yet, Troy, but did do some basic testing @ 25 yd. indoor range. The most promising so far is a 110 gr. Varmageddon, estimated mv of 3000 fps. Shot several two shot one hole "groups" in process of getting a zero. Plan to load up some more when I can get to the outdoor range and test @ 100. Since this rifle primarily for coyote hunting the 110's will be fine if the jacket heavy enough on the Varmageddons. My favorite 125 gr. load shot several 3-5 rd. cloverleaf groups which I'd guestimate would translate to less than moa @ 100.

The benches at indoor range were too narrow to get a rear bag under rifle which contributed to some vertical stringing. We'll see, but I think it's gonna be MOcoyote and barrel seems to be slicking up a bit from what it looked like at first.

The 125 grainers from a 308 can be pretty good and the 110s . Think I used to used the amax with 50grains of blc(2).
Had a light load of 4895/125 that shot great in another rifle; tried near max load of 748 in this one but hadn't gotten steady on the narrow bench yet, so will revisit that load. The 110 is a light load of H335 shown as most accurate in Nosler manual. Not used to testing loads at such short range; will feel more comfortable/familiar w/100 yd.

Built the first 308 in town under the watchful eye of a gunsmith friend/mentor in the early '50's (memory fails but was when the 308 was first introduced). Ball C was the "primo" 308 Win. powder and is still a favorite of mine.

Ball C ladder test in the BAR started @ 45gr to 46.5 gr w/150 gr Accubonds; showed promise @ 25 yds but want to repeat @ 100 before choosing best load.
