I was prowling the internet looking at tooling patterns for holsters the other day and ran across this brand of holster on various sites. I know they are out of business but wanted to see what they had offered. What I found was very expensive prices. Some must have been knock offs as the quality of work was terrible. I also found some new old stock and nothing was exceptional. One was full floral carved and the work was so-so with a price of over $200 dollars. I can see where they are no longer in business if they were charging the current prices for the examples of their work I saw.

Did they actually turn out great leather and these are just knockoffs trying to trade on the name or were they not so hot?

I never considered Tex Shoemaker to be a maker of “knock-offs.” The quality of some duty and concealment gear, that I bought, was quite good. I believe that the high prices being asked, now, on the internet, reflect “collector” prices, that the seller hopes to get.

Tex Shoemaker made a lot of stuff for police and is no knock-off maker. I have some of his leatherwork. He had a breakfront holster that was somewhat copied from the Hoyt breakfront holster (used by SFPD). The difference was the additional strap of leather behind the trigger guard as an added safety measure against disarmament.

I used his quad pouch magazine holder (four 45 ACP mags), double handcuff pouch (started that after the King Riots) and key holder (quiet model so no jingle jangle jingle as I walked).

BTW, I still have a couple of Hoyt holsters. They were replaced by the Safariiland SS III 070 (triple retention holster). I've no idea what they use nowadays.

" Some must have been knock-offs as the quality was terrible". That was meant as some one was producing low quality holsters labeled as Tex Shoemaker to take advantage of the name., not that the out of business Tex Shoemaker company made them. Sorry if it confused you.
