Also, this was a traffic accident, going going show that a situation where you need your gun can arise at any time. Better to have it and not need it then not have it when you need it.

That's a typical example of "street life" where you can pretty much expect... .the unexpected. A small percentage of every population anywhere you go might not exactly be wrapped very tightly at all - and on the street some of them learn to go armed with whatever they can lay their hands on... A screwdriver, a piece of pipe, a rock in a sock, a nice well sharpened knitting needle... Sky's the limit for street types. That's just one of the reasons why a bit of distance from any unknown person in an encounter is your friend... A concealed firearm, legally carried by someone with the ability to use it - might not defend you very well if someone armed with a machete can get close enough to strike while that sidearm is still in its holster (and maybe not even then if your ability to shoot is terminated by a machete strike to your gun hand (or arm or shoulder)...
