Texas: Employer parking lot bill filed

actually.. no, it's not legal to put up a "White's Only" sign.. it comes under federal "hate crimes"..

I meant from a philosophical perspective of individual rights and private property. Not saying anything about legality.

The race arguement is a bad one... you can't choose your race, but you can choose rather or not your CCing.

It not a bad argument, the concepts are exactly the same.

You open the door to allowing some very hateful things if you try to draw a line on what you can "choose" to be.

What about gay rights? You could argue that some people "choose" to be that way and some will be VERY offended.

I choose to be a firearm carrier, or maybe I was just born to be one. Either way why should I have to change WHO I FUNDAMENTALLY AM just to have a job, or to get lunch?

No, the argument very much holds up if you don't make this about property.

I am a gun owner, and a law abiding citizen. I should not have to pretend to be otherwise in deference to someone's property rights anymore than a gay citizen should have to pretend to be straight to get a hamburger.

It's all the same thing.

If we as gun owners accept anything less then we will continue to see the erosion of our rights, plain and simple.

If we were sitting around having a nice drink and conversation with Jefferson he might disagree, but our reality is that we are a group of citizens under attack, and we are a minority. We play their game or we go home.

Extreme? Maybe. Nothing else is working......

explain to me how skin color and possestion of an object on private property are exaclty the same.

I love the hypocrisy of the private property right crowd; they want to control your private property rights because their rights are more important than yours.

They want to control your private property stored within your private property parked on their private property.

The only way to resolve this, is if you cannot carry your CCW to work because of their actions and you are injured on route to work and were unable to defend yourself because of their private property rights then you would be, or your family would be in a very strong position to file a law suit against that employer, after all they have prevented you from using your right to defend yourself in a public place and have prevented you from carrying your person property a defensive weapon in accordance with the laws applicable to your state.

How many employers want to take this on in court and how many of them have asked their insurance companies if they are willing to defend their position in this instance???????

You don't have to park in thier parking lot, just like you don't have to be employeed by them.

As an employer, I would take that case on in a second, its a case, that you can not win. Infact the only thing filing a case like that would do is lose any assets you had, as I would not drop my counter suit.

thay are not exactlky the same, he was usiing the fact that someone can put up a sign saying "whites only" to show where personal right of free speech inflict upon 'hate crimes.' if someone puts up a sign saying "no guns", that intrudes upon your right to defend yourself

and to a case like that, here in texas the only way a property owner can legally prevent firearms from entering their property is by obvious placement of a sign with specific writing, font size, and contrasting colour on it. any other signs have no legal force.

no it does not, you don't have to go there, you also don't need a gun to defend yourself. A gun is just a tool.

For those of you saying that the bill had failed, where do you see this? I see where it was filed on 2/9, but nowhere do I see if it has passed or not.

what if i happen to be a pregnant woman with twins, who cant run, and doesnt have someone with me to protect me? pepper sprays arent as effective as they should be, while a taser is iffy and is pretty much only single-shot use.

not all of us can afford to spend the time and $$ to become an amazing martial artist just for self-defense.

and what happens in the case where there are more than one person your up against? or they are armed? your gonna have a hard time defending yourself against that without some firepower of your own

yes, a gun is just a tool. but it is a useful one.

Its not the body, its the mind... its all software, not hardware.

Yes, teach the guy in the wheelchair to use the Jedi Mind Trick to stop his attackers.

These are not the droids you are looking for.

A major irony of my situation... my employer makes major weapon systems for the military, yet legal, personal weapons cannot be brought onto company property. I know a similar bill was passed in Florida last year, but our company lawyers/lobbyists got an exception for defense contractors. And no tobacco on company property. Not that I use tobacco products, but I wonder where the line is drawn. Some employers have completely banned smoking, even away from work, based on the argument of containing health insurance costs. Not everyone understands that we are on this slippery slope where our personal, legal activities are being restricted by employers. Next up, no fast food, no alcohol, no rock climbing, no skiing, no skydiving, no whatever, all based on the employer's broadening claims of authority due to our employment. And maybe eventually, no shooting because the employer feels it is a dangerous activity.
