Texas Residents High Caliber Gun Show - Houston

The High Caliber Gun show is this weekend. I believe it is the largest in the country and is at the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston. Stop on by. I don't have a booth or anything, but (God willing) I will be there. I know that at least some of you have some tax rebates to spend. Buy American brands (preferably American made + American Brands) if you can.

Corn dogs... Pretzels... Primers........ mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

If you live anywhere else and can still afford to buy gas, then just go to the nearest gun shop and buy a gun with the money you saved by not coming down here... ;)
 
I'll be there Saturday. Didn't think High Caliber was bigger than the HGCA show at Reliant, but maybe it is.
 
Next year, we should have shirts made...

Is tailgating at a gun show frowned upon? :evil: I could imagine, a big group of Texan THR members tailgaiting at the parking lot across from the convention center... :cool:

It may not be... But no question it is one of the top 5 in the country.
 
The GRB show is pretty large, but its generally lucky to be half the sized of the HCGA Reliant shows.

Parking is a PITA at GRB, tailgating would be most impractical, Reliant encourages tailgating at Texas games, maybe we could start a new tradition :)

I'm planning to have my wife drop me off first thing in the morning and pick me up about 1PM.

That is not even the largest gun show in Houston, much less the country. :)

It is pretty sizable and that big ammo vendor from Brenham goes there. I went to the last one. Might have to skip this one.
 
Tailgating!! Great ideal, if you don't forget the new parking at GRB is underground, lol. Yes, there is now a lake where the old parking lot used to be.
 
I'll be there also, but as many said it's not even the biggest show in Houston, still worth going to though. I have rarely been when I didn't find something that followed me home, and for tomorrow I'm thinking either a PS90, or a Sig556, hope something inspires me to choose one of them over the other.
 
I used to think these were sort of dull...until DH found his .30 carbine at one, and I found a terrific 66-3 at another. I could do without the Nazi t-shirts, though.

Update

I'm baaaaaaack.....

I have never seen so many people at a gun show, and they're always pretty popular around here. Cops shopping, families shopping, and only really obnoxious tee shirt to be found. All in all, not bad. I'd personally like to see more little "mom and pop" operations, but there were truthfully quite a few. One guy had some phenomenal Civil War stuff, including a Harper's Weekly from 1863. I was tempted.

But since I'd just bought a new Kel-Tec P3AT for summer carry, I figured I'd spent my money for the day. Got it from a nice little mom and pop, literally.

We were about to leave; I'd asked Archerandshooter if there was anything else he wanted to take a second look at. We looked around at the crowds, and he said, "You know, seeing that, you can pretty much know that no confiscation effort is EVER going to work here." It was fun; although nobody should be allowed to charge three bucks for one bottle of water. :scrutiny:

Off to clean the new baby....

I thought it was a pretty good show, although a bit smaller than usual. Crowd was light when I got there, but filled up fast -- good to see the diversity.

If the economy is in a recession, sure couldn't tell by the lines I had to wait in to buy my Sig556. First thing I did was pick up a rifle I had repaired and constantly had people asking if I wanted to sell as I walked around.

Saw a couple of of Ruger LCP -- wanted $339 for them which was $100 more than he was asking for the Kel-TecP3AT -- the guns sure do look alike above the trigger guard.

The days of cheap ammo are gone :( but if you shoot .38Super Ammo-to-Go had Aguila 130 gr FMJ .38Super+P for $140/500. I got the last of their .308 Baurnal 168gr SP.


Was tempted by the new Taurus OSS for $445, but spent a bit more than I'd preferred for the SIG and some PMAGs for it, so I'll look again at Reliant in two weeks.

One ammo supplier was selling factory ammo at MUCH better prices than my local Gander Mountain. 500 rounds of .45ACP for $179. They were sort of to the left of center at the front of the show....if you stood by the cops who were checking purses and looked slightly to your left, you'd see 'em. I bought some .380 for the new baby.

And if anyone's thinking of going tomorrow....go by the guy's book table. He has a copy of Brister's book on shotgunning, and I picked up a new reprint of Theodore Roosevelt's book on hunting. Some REALLY cool titles there. Far left as you're looking at the show floor from the front by the cops' table.

I was kind of disappointed in the show.
Couldn't find a decent USGI style 1911 to save me life. Plenty of AR stuff. Way too many tables of non-gun stuff. Practically the entire last 1/3 was non-gun.

The Reliant show is mo betta.
