TFL Down?

Methinks Rich highly occupied this weekend with "Hog Hunting Challenge" at lease in TX Panhandle. Better hope that someone else at TFL is a fixer-upper cuz he's probably gonna be tied up in the brush behind a video camera.

I still have reason to believe there is a mass attack on the interweb. Ive had multiple problems with several sites. Will know for sure in the next week if im right. Hopefully its just errors.

My home forum has been down recently too...we have a very compitent webmaster so it's strange that we're having troubles.
Forum is game related, though, nothing to do with RKBA.

Even THR was uncharacteristically slow earlier on. Makes me me wonder whether sometimes the whole web is possibly affected by huge automated DOS output.

Several sites were slow over last 24 hrs.

P95 thats what I was assuming. It started around 2AM this morning for me and caused a crap load of problems for me.

I think andrewtb is on to something, i visit alot of firearm forums and several are having trouble and problems lately. I am hearing from a few folks that they think some anti-gun group is hacking or trying to hack firearm site's. be it true or not i wouldnt put it past the low lifes. B8B

oh on a side note here's a new forum you guys may want to check out in your spare time, they seem like a good bunch of people www.mausercentral.com/forum its a small forum but i find my self reading often. if outside link is against THR rules just delete this paragraph out and i appologize

Methinks TFL is down because...

..something related to the Great Hawg Hunt

A. Mr. Lucibella "said" <paraphrased> ...be like little boys at a food fight..
Food fight got a wee bit too wild and knocked the server out.

B. Harley missed the Hawg, either the .45ACP or the Hawg got the server..

C. Harley got the Hawg and with all the back slapping and carrying ons- forgot about the server...

D. Mr. Lucibella is too busy cooking, Harley, Johnny, Mikou, Emerson...everybody chowing down...who cares about the server.

Did you folks see Mr. Lucibella's menu? I was drooling let me tell you.

Mr. Lucibella really needs to do a Recipe/ Menu thread while being at the Hunting Camp! Heck cooking in general..anwhere. Just hunting to keep on topic...

TheFiringLine down?

It appears that TFL is down? It returns a Not Found error, appears to be hitting the server itself though, must be apache crashed or something.

I haven't been over there for a couple days, so if I missed a notice about system maintainence or something, mods can close/delete this.

Yep,
it's down for me too, although I do get the occasional email notifying me of a post.
Waitin' patiently........................... :scrutiny:

Sounds a bit paranoid, but not totally without possibility. I'll consider the possibility. Having several unconnected RKBA sites encountering problems concurrently certainly lends credence to the possibility.

I just wish I could get in there and respond to that last argument! :D

Dos....

DOS = Denial of Service. And then there is DDOS = Distributed Denial of Service. And then there is another first coined by Steve Gibson when his network was nailed by it. It is DrDOS or Distributed Reflection Denial of Service attack. I'm not gonna explain all these as this is a gun forum and it takes a 200 page book to explain them better than I could. Either way I think that is what was going on last nite to. A lot of the sites I went to were really slow last nite and I have cable Internet access!! I remember back in April of 2001 (I think) that someone did a DDOS attack on 9 of the 13 core servers/routers of the internet. For an hour or so the entire internet was either down or you couldn't connect at all. So far as I know no one was caught for it. And in case you're wondering, no I'm not BSing you, I am a Cisco Certified Networking Associate.

Their web server is up and answering - it's the message database and application files that are offline. Does't look like a DoS attack, at least at this point, since the Apache web server *is* responding to HTTP hails. May have been a DoS that took out the db and the web server restarted just fine, or may just have been a coincidental DB issue.
