I just tried to make my last post and was denied. I guess it is midnight in the East.

Yea its locked down. I tried too at 1 minute after Midnight and it says it wasnt taking anymore replies. Bummer.

I will miss you TFL

Thanks Oleg for giving us a home.

Happy New Year to Oleg and Runt and everyone else who made this place possible.

Happy New Year to all

444,

Likewise, at 15 seconds before midnight, EST. TFL went dark a teeny bit early. :(

The part I didn't like was that it would let you type the message before telling you that you were too late.
The end of an Era.

Yes, end of an era :( but a beginning of a new one! :) What a legacy we have and you should all be proud of it. Thank you one and all!

Let's roll!

Yep, Rich pulled the plug. According to my watch it went dead about 10 seconds early.

Rich had a post asking if everyone was present and it looks like only about 20 TFLers made it.

I squeeked in just "under the wire." ;)

So then my 1500th post was my last one. Nice round number to end with.

Weird. Boy did that site help pass the time in my old job. Basically got paid to surf the internet for 12 hours, unless the phone rang.

TFL is like a ghost now. You can see it, but you can't quite touch it . . . .

I was there and wanted to try posting for the finale but got engrossed in the "Lie Detector Test" thread in General Discussion area and missed it.

Check that thread out for reviving childhoodlum memories.

I was rather perplexed by my reaction to the demise of TFL. It was sort of like the last episode of M.A.S.H.: an actual touch of genuine sadness.

I dunno. I was just surprised at myself for feeling that way. Cyberspace can seem quite impersonal at times, but then...

Oh well! New year, new cyber-home!

My sincere best wishes to all as we start 2003.

2003??!! Geez. I'm still wondering where 1984 went to...

I was stuck in traffic coming home, missed the ending. By the time I got there the old place was locked up tight.

Went to hit the "Submit" icon about 15 seconds before midnight...

And it was gone. Missed it by a few seconds.

There were

a heck of a lot more than 20 of us there... I'd already posted my ceremonial Last Post, and refrained. There were about 150 people visiting just before midnight.

Final Count From TFL: Members: 17,850, Threads: 145,927, Posts: 1,344,892

End of an era. Let's do like Rich said, and make 2003 a year to remember.

I was there when Rich locked the doors.

TFL is just retired for now. Rich could find that he also misses it and bring it back on-line at any time. Until then, let's all try to meet his challenge in the New Year.

It was definitely sad to see all of those locks on the front page - but I'm glad we have a new place to call home.
