For giving good sound advice on the powder charge for my 45ACP using Unique powder. The charge was just what I was looking for to get out of plinking rounds. The 6.5 grains was perfect.

Now being new to using Unique powder I am a little disappointed in the dirt left behind with it but hey I can not complain about it all.

Good guys always win..........

Duce1,
If you like Unique but want something cleaner try Universal. (Hodgdon Universal Clays) It's real close to Unique without the leftovers...

If you are a clean freak, like some of us are, try N320. You'll wonder if you shot the gun.

Clays, 700X, and Solo 1000 are also very clean. Dang shame it (S-1000) seems to be going away.

Who cares how dirty it gets??

It's easier to see when it's coming clean. ;-)

I'd stick with Unique.

I will try universal as well. This was my first try with Unique.

I am one of those guys that some hate that want to get the most out of one powder that I can without having a powder for each caliber weapon I have. So when one powder works for me over a wide range of calibers i will stick with it. Cleaning is not a problem with me I have the time to do it .

I was just a little surprised with it. I thought it was a cleaning burning powder?

Using Universal in place of Unique won't add to your powder count because Universal can be used in any caliber you now load with Unique.

You're not quite finished just yet....

Without changing your bullet or OAL, make up 5 test rounds of each which increase the power by 0.2gr, 0.4gr and 0.6gr. When you hit the "magic number" Unique will burn surprisingly clean, but you have to find the "zone" that's right for you and your gun.

Line up the fired cases by their respective test groups. You'll see the inside of the case go from black to gray/tan. Stop at the first light colored group's loading. That's really the minimum load which makes your gun start to "run". The case will fully seal the chamber, the powder is burning completely, and the inside of the gun will be 75% cleaner.

;)

I get some black soot on my cases but they shoot so well, I can afford the dirt. The brass tumbler cleans them up and I don't worry about it. Unique is definitely the best powder in my pistols.

I had always heard that Unique didn't meter well. I wanted to try some anyway. I have found that it meters just as good as any other powder. As for burning clean I loaded some 200g HP-XTPs with (if I remember correctly) 7.0g of Unique on Friday, went to the range they shot great and cases looked like they just came out of the tumbler.

My question is, have you tried other powders and if you did, what powders?
